so, now it is official, i guess i should camp out in front of staples just so i don't miss out. I don't want them to all sell out before i have a chance to get one. Thats what happened on Monday right?

Seriously, Edd is the one who started the rumors. Lets just keep our pants on until HANDSPRING makes an announcement. If we base everything on what one Staples employee(and how do we know he is an employee) says, we are going to be disappointed.

And if an announcement is made soon, I'll just put my tail between my legs and craw under a rock in shame, but for now, I'm not going to jump on the Neo/Pro bandwagon.

i hope best buy will have them too, because their arent to many places dedicated to handspring around me.

and for the integrated wireless technology, i remember donna saying that, that new handheld will be out about january or febuary. from a fiscal year report that i downloaded form another website(it was a news item on visorcentral) and was about an hour long. and she talked about their stragedies and how they survived their down fall. (it was a stock market website)

As a fellow Staples employee I would like to say that what he says is real. The doc that he spoke of in the first post, I found a few days later and he even left out a few things! Lets see here, did he say that the new units would come out Monday? NO. Just that the current ones would drop in price. I'll be looking into the sku's tomorrow.

Wink

Just walk into any Staples store and ask one of the sales associate to check these SKUs for you. Nobody (stores) would have it now but you should be able to get it as soon as Handspring announce it. Remember the Edge, same thing here. It would showed up in the system first. Two weeks later, they announced it. Now, the release dates for these new Visors could even be longer (or shorter) than when the Edge was released.

thanks for the pre colaboration Sibell. I was about to post the same thing except from what I understood, it was probably going to be pre-Christmas, like early December. That may have changed, I don't know.

Red face Holey Mother of Pearl!

This thread just broke 20,000 (yes twenty THOUSHAND) views. Either there's a bug in the groups software, or people are REALLY itching for new visors.

This is a big disappointment... I want to hear of a model that will be $500 or higher -- which will hopefully have at least wireless capabilities, color screen like Sony's and 16MB of memory.

$500?? Are you insane. Don't ASK them to price it that high! They'll do it. Seriously, pretty soon you ought to be able to buy a laptop for not much more than that with some good capabilities .

isnt there a word 'inflamtion'? . that has to do with how prices will rise but income will also grow in years. for example, 70 years ago everything was very, very cheap, but people made a lot less money

edd is right

well, for what it is worth, the sku 471242 is correct. You can go onto staples.com, do a search for something that isn't there and you will have the option to "talk" with a rep. I asked her about the availability of the sku in question. she tells me they are not available in my area. I confirmed that the SKU I had given her were for the visor neo red

Inflation

Robert, Yes, inflation has an effect on prices.. but when it comes to computers, The law of the land is MOORE'S LAW! (basicly computers double in speed/memory every 2 years). Hence, an ultra high end pc in 81 (the Original PC) was $5000, and an ultra high end PC today (say, a top of the line laptop with best of everything options) is STILL $5000. Yet in the same 20 years, the prices of real estate have skyrockted, etc etc.

Ok, to get back on topic... I'm pretty convinced that the visor neo is real, and on it's way. The only question will be when. I'm guessing a few weeks, but hopeing for monday... However, my gut feeling is that these two are just going to be stopgap units to "get somthing new out there" while they work on the next big thing (which I hope is hi-res/color).

Question Salt in Wounds

Perhaps I'm mistaken...however some days before all this flubbiss about the new Visors release, I'd have sworn that in one of those spiffy little banner ads here on VC I saw what looked to be a Visor Dlx/PLT form factor yet in a nifty red color akin to the Edge.

I'm not trying to incite something here...just curious if someone else noticed it? If so, perhaps a demo/prototype that ended up in a jpg or maybe just some marketing hack having fun with Photoshop.

or maybe just an overactive imagination

if any of you are affilites for handspring like me you already recieved new banner ads for their new lower prices. but i wonder if we will recieve new html codes for the, 'yet to come' devices before they actually come.

Hey, anyone notice that Alan has been signing all his road reports off with "somthing's happening" over the last couple of days... and today he is in LAS VEGAS!... hmm, could this be a clever ruse from handspring to release their new units in 'vegas? Alan Grahm, Alex Schwartz... Hmmm....

(just had to stir the pot)

My god, my brain (specifically, the rumorbellum) is going haywire.

Knoppi, if you can't publish the text of the e-mail (which is understandable), can you give more details about the three models that are discussed? Even in general terms (VDX replacement? Prism replacement? ...)

it seems, handspring first announce two new models, one replacing the vdx and another one placed between the edge and the prism. thats what we all know (or believe to know). the third model will be announced perhaps a few weeks later but even in fall ... there is only a note about the third model. something like "... we have to discuss the announcement of the telecommunication unit ..."
