Question

I have been planning on purchasing a PDA for about three months now. After researching, I was about to settle on a visor, but have lingering doubts about problems with cracks and syncing. There are alot of posts about these problems. Of course I have not been on any similar sites about Palms. Do palms have a similar level of problems? After reading about the two way pager to come out- I was even more excited about a visor, but don;t want to get into a bunch of problems. Let me know what you think!

I haven't heard of the cracking problem happening with Palms, but their case is a little different. The snap-on cover and how it attaches to the Visor seem to be the main culprit here. As for sync problems, most are related to the serial cradle, which seems to be a problem point; I never had a serial port sync problem with my Palm devices and I use a USB cradle with my Visor--no problems there either.
I keep my Visor in a 3Com Palm III belt clip case and have no cracks; I put a WriteRight screen protector on it and have no problem with scratches (my Pilot 1000 screen did scratch, and then someone invented WriteRights, which I used on my PalmPilot Personal). As for software compatibility, I have had only one problem; I ended up downloading an updated PalmOS 3.1-specific version and had no further problems.
(For those who have had problems, it may be a version incompatibility; developers came out with 3.1-specific versions of many apps well before the Visor became available, so I suspect Palm devices using the same OS will have similar problems.)
Considering the price and what you get for it, as well as future (and present) expandability and the ability to HotSync through a USB port if your computer has one, I would recommend the Visor Deluxe.

Go to www.ultraviolet.org where there is a Palm mailing list and do a search on crack, scratch, etc and you will find that Palm owners have the same issues.
