Digital Link and Sprint plans

Anyone know if you have to buy the digital plan and wireless web option with Sprint in order to access the internet using the digital link on a prism? The miniimum plan is $60 plus $5 for wireless web, which is pretty steep. The none digital plans can go for a more reasonable $30-40 per month.

Nope.

All of Sprints plans are digital - they're just trying to sell more than most people need.

You can access the internet with any of their plans without signing up, but if you do not select the $5 internet option you get charged some ridiculous amount per minute (0.49?) you are connected, plus you use your voice minutes.

You can add the $5 option to any plan and then your internet usage just comes out of your voice minutes.

I pay $39.99 for 350 anytime/2150 N&W minutes, plust $5 for the internet option. They just take my internet time out of my voice minutes.

Agree with ehaseltine. I have a 39.99 plan for my Prism too, but with a few differences (one of their current promotions I think) with 350 peak hours, 3650 off peak (N&W) for 4,000 per month. Internet option is free for first 3 months then $5 per month afterward.

I really like the Airprime SB3000 Digital Link model. It automatically configured my "Network Preferences" to the Sprint PCS connection and dialing in to the web only takes from 10 to 12 seconds. Coverage has been very good in the 8 cities I've traveled to so far (DC, Orlando, Omaha, Kansas City, Dayton, Boston, Charlotte, Pittsburg).

FYI, I recently installed a macro program and composed a script that launches Eudora Mail, and checks my mail (2 accounts) every hour on the hour from 7:00am to 5:00 pm while I'm running around town (DC) on business. The entire mail check typically runs 1 to 2 minutes so it's not costing me much to use it either. It's very handy to glance at your Visor and see the Waiting Mail dialog from Eudora as you sit down to another long, boring meeting.

Take the Sprint $39.99 deal - you won't regret it. The same wasn't true for me with the Visorphone-Voicestream option (terrible ordering experience, weak Voicestream coverage here in DC - eternal login, slower digital connection). I plan to upgrade to a color CDMA Treo the moment they are made available.

Also, the Vaja Visorphone case is also nice as it fits the Airprime phone too - the E&B case covers the headphone jack and will require "modification" to use.

sprint plans for digital link

Thanks for the info. That may be the deal maker for me. I can't tell from the website, do these $39.95 plans include free roaming?

There is no roaming on the Sprint network. With any of these plans, you can make and recieve calls from anywhere to anywhere on the network. If you leave the sprint network (switch to analog) it's something like 0.69/min.

The only catch is if you do not have long distance included - if you travel outside your home area and call home - it will be a long distance call. (0.20/min)

The best deal seems to be the free and clear plans - they include long distance and add the wireless internet for $5 a month.

VS switch to Sprint?

Can I switch my current VS VisorPhone to a Sprint phone? If so, how would I do that?

Brian,

If you mean use the visorphone with Sprint, then no. The visorphone is GSM only, while Sprint uses CDMA.

The Airprime SB3000 Digital Link that Kupe mentions above is substantially the same thing as the visorphone, but works on the Sprint CDMA network.

Sprint digital link

Do you all think that a used Sprint SB3000 is worth $150?

I have been using a Minstrel S modem on Earthlink and it is spotty to say the least with connection.

I just got the Sprint Digital link for the prism, after having used the Minstrel S for a year with Omnisky. Whereas the coverage in the S.F. Bay area was relatively poor and spotty with Omnisky (and Earthlink) it is very good with the Sprint modem/phone. Essentially it is like cellphone coverage. I can get it in my home, and in buildings where I could never get the Minstrel to function. Only drawback is that the web access comes out of the phone minutes, so during the week I have to keep an eye on the time. Otherwise I recommend it highly. BTW, with the rebates, if you purchase a new plan the cost of a new modem/phone is $149.
