Question SMS w/ Minstrel & no phone?

I've been a Visor-owner for 15 months, and currently I have a Prism using a Minstrel-S and the GoAmerica service. Wireless comm works pretty well, in general. My question is regarding SMS...

Using the above setup, can I send SMS messages to my wife's cell phone (at a different location)? I can send SMS messages by using Blazer and connecting to the Verizon Wireless web page, but this is a very slow process. I'm wondering if I can use a wireless ISP to send SMS messages directly to her phone.

I've looked into a few different SMS software titles, and it appears that you must have an IR-ready, compitable phone in order to send SMS messages directly (I do not).

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Try ICQ ...

Although it will still require a net connection, you might find using ICQ for PalmOS will do the job; version 2.1 apparently supports ICQ's SMS service, though I've not tried it myself yet.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the suggestion, Nigel. I reviewed the networks that ICQ supports, and found that, unfortunately, Verizon Wireless is not included.

However, a visit to that same site (www.icq.com) reminded me that I can send SMS via e-mail (this works). Now I'll just need to figure out a way to count characters (only 160 characters allowed, the rest are dropped w/o notice).

Thanks again!
