Even if the 16Mb is comparatively well-priced at $90 for an SB, it can't compete w/ non-proprietary CF cards that are still much cheaper per Mb, and can be read by PCs, cameras, etc.
While I heartily support dkessler's CF project (I've already built myself an adapter), there *are* limitations. I don't think it's possible to run apps directly off of the CF card; they have to be copied to internal memory first. Even with 'automove' functionality, you have to wait for the data or app to be moved, and you have to leave some free space on your visor to hold it. CF memory cards may also have slower access speeds and higher power consumption than springboard memory, though I'm not sure. Of course, the larger memory size, lower per-MB cost, and greater availability of CF cards makes them great for backup or storage of reference materials.
