Question SM or CF memory

fellow pda'ers,

i have been wading through a quagmire of information
about SM or CF memplug adapters and such.

could someone please summarize the good, bad and the ugly
of the 2 types of memory?

i found a great price on 128 of CF memory and am ready to buy
it but am not sure it is what i need.

i use my prism mostly for information such as drug info and medical info and i am looking for something that fits flush into
the expansion slot.

many thanks,
tony

Re: SM or CF memory

CF Good:
Fast Writing/Reading
CF Bad:
Takes more battery power to run. Will see your battery drain faster.

SM Good:
Take less battery power to run.
SM Bad:
Slow writing
Decent Reading

Both are flush.

Unhappy A day late

I guess I was asleep at the wheel. Besides I think there should be a visorcentral award for how many threads can be traced back to this question. I'm just waiting for the "which is better cf,sm or memory stick"now that memplug has come out with it.

There will be more options than just those three ... PIT isn't the only company with new adapter products in the works

For the Memplug, I use the CF.

As I understand, the Memplug CF is flush with the Visor.
The Memplug SM is not as the SM card sticks out just a tad.

I chose CF because I have a digital camera that uses it. That was the main reason for going with the CF Memplug. According to the Memplug group on Yahoo, it's about 50/50 with SM just leading a tad.

Personally, I think flush is important...so CF wins here. Also consider what you're already using.

Mike

The SM card I've got seems to be flush in my Memplug unit.

Talking Opps

Sorry Dave, your right there are other vendors besides Memplug. But here is there strength, You can pick up a Memplug at CompUsA or Staples. Granted fast mail service is great and outstanding service is importantant. There is just something nice about walking in and buying one off the shelf ($20.00 off special's help a great deal also)

Flashplus CF module $30 (incl shipping) today only!

How's this: fastest CF adapter, no rebates to wait for, and you don't have to leave your house:
The Innopocket Flashplus adapter is on sale until midnite today, for only $30 (including Priority 2-3 day shipping!):

http://www.matchbookdrive.com/

--------------
For CF, the InnoPocket FlashPlus CF adapter and Memplug CF both have their strong points, but recent speed tests show the FlashPlus wins out, mostly because of the software used to interface with the CF controller(thanks to Dave Kessler at Kopsis!). Dave is too modest to post these results himself, but here's the comparison:

http://www.kopsisengineering.com/fa_performance.html

Granted, Dave developed the benchmark software himself, but it measures a number of different aspects of CF performance and they all show the FlashPlus/Kopsis CF combination beats MemPlug CF in every category.

If you missed the special promo, here are other sources:

FlashPlus CF adapter at GetHighTech: $39.99
http://www.gethightech.com/item.html?PRID=1001872

MatchbookDrive: $40
http://www.matchbookdrive.com/

FlashPlus CF adapter at Innopocket site: $49.99
http://www.innopocket.com/EShop/Main/product.php?ID=7

-------------

If you get the FlashPlus, make sure you get the latest version of the Kopsis software for the module if its not on there already - its 2.1.0 (not 2.0.1 - its obsolete) at http://www.kopsisengineering.com/; you'll need your registration # from the purchase of the FlashPlus adapter.

P.S. Your choice of CF card is IMPORTANT - Only certain CF cards implement a sleep/standby mode, and since the Palm never really turns off power to the springboard slot, this makes the difference between replacing batteries daily or much less often... From my experience, for example, SanDisk is good to batteries, PNY is bad.
