Prism upgrades to 16M are now available at www.palmpilotupgrade.com for $149.

Looks like it was recently updated, and I suppose this would probably void your warranty. I know that these are available overseas, but this guy is based in CA.

The price seems reasonable, although it's a little rich for my blood. I'll stick with 8M + 8M flash...

Brianp,

Yes, you're right, Tony updated his website today to reflect the 16MB Visor Prism info. I'm pretty sure I'm going to order it... Then I can have 16MB + 8MB flash (or maybe 16MB flash if I feel the need to buy that)

One correction to your post. Tony is in NJ and not CA.

Cool How about the Platinum?

I wonder if he could upgrade a platinum? Having 16mb internally would be great.

I've already contacted Tony at palmpilotupgrade.com and he is working on the process. Hopefully he will soon be able to offer the service. No mention of price, but would expect it to be similar to the Prism upgrade.

I have placed my order. Sure I have the 8 MB module, but with my Minstrel modem anchored to my Prism at all times. I will update when unit returns - I received comfrmation just now for a quick return.

Yes, I'm worrying about the same thing. I was going to order the 16MB upgrade for my Prism today but the warranty, that Tony gives, is only 30 days.

If Handspring, and Palm, devices were more reliable, I wouldn't have the same concerns. My Visor Deluxe was replaced twice in its first year -- what hope do I have that I won't have to get Handspring to replace my Prism in its first year?

Is anyone ordering this upgrade?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if you go with this upgrade and something goes wrong you're only out $85 for solo, deluxe, platinum and $100 for prism. Even if that is correct the replacement they send will only have the 8 mb standard, so you pissed the $149 down your leg. Just get the 16 flash module. That brings you up to 24mb total memory. You can keep only the essentials on the unit itself (hell you could probably get a solo) and keep everything else (aside from those apps that need to write directly to the memory, e.g. WordSmith) on the module. Then having the 16mb module in isn't as imperitive. If you're going to throw in a different module, you're probably going to be running the software on that module, so you won't need the software on your 16mb one. How about that Handspring? The next generation visors could have 128 bytes of memory (for the core apps) and you could just buy the memory you need. Why even have memory on the visor itself? It could be like those old computers that didn't have a hard drive. You just put in the floppy that has the program you want and turn it on, except it would be a lot more versatile than just software because of the design of the springboard. We could take the processor out and have another slot in the device to plug in whatever processor we could afford. And why have internal speakers when we could have another slot for the varying qualities of speaker we could afford to plug in? Come to think of it, why do we need a visor in the first place? I have a good memory so I don't need the eyemodule, I can play the dot game and hangman on a piece of paper I carry with me, I don't need mp3's because I could sing to myself. I can hear the slogan now, "Handspring, it's all in your mind." The visor solo would be for single people, the deluxe would be 4 people perpetually in a group, the platinum would be 4 yuppies discussing stock options, and the prism could be 4 schizophrenics (for the color).

It's been a day.

I was originally going to post that what you had just said was the stupidest thing I've ever heard...but then it started to make sense! I just sold my friend my Prism for $10 and since now that he has a cool toy and no longer finds me interesting I have no friends, but thats okay because I can only afford the new Solo state of mind anyways.

This is also good because we no longer have to replace the batteries or buy screen protectors! Well, I'll stil buy screen protectors just because I need something to protect from paper cuts.

When I had a cracked screen on my 2 meg unit, upgraded to 8 meg by www.STNEcorp.com, Handspring sent me a new unit and I swapped the memory board. Dont know if this is possible on the Platinum and Prism.

Max size of upgrade

The guy that is doing the upgrade tells me that the max size of the upgrade is 16 megs becasue that is all that the Visor can handle. I've now heard 3 things, 32, 16 & 2 Gb. What's the truth?

I went to the Motorola website and find that the DragonBall VZ support up to 32M of memory if you use 32M X 8 memory chip.

Here is the link:
http://e-www.motorola.com/brdata/PD...83XX/AN1847.pdf

It is on page 21 of 48.
