Wink

I dont have any idea how to use USB with Linux (because none of my computers features a USB port) but if you use the serial docking station it should be possible to sync with Linux and do even worse things (PPP connection etc.ppp =B). This is as to the people at Handspring support I interviewed about the Visor today. The Visor has PalmOS - so it has network connectivity. The docking port is capable of both normal serial mode (read this somewhere - dont ask me where) and USB mode. So it /should/ be no problem. Ill try it anyway.

To the extent that the Visor's Ir and serial crdale work like a Plam III, it should be supported as much as a Palm III:

The PalmOS-HOWTO http://linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/PalmOS-HOWTO.html

PalmOS integration with KDE and Gnome is progressing (slowly, in the case of Gnome)

The Linux-IrDA project reports successful IrDA communication between Palm IIIs and Linux (http://www.snafu.de/~wehe/IR-HOWTO-6.html#ss6.4)

Newer Linux kernels partially support USB: http://www.linux-usb.org/
But I have no idea if support is developed enough to talk to the Visor, or if the pilot-link developers plan to port pilot-link to USB.

Thumbs up

USB + Linux
----------------
I have linux and a Palm IIIx and I can tell you that when my Visor Deluxe gets here, the FIRST thing Im doing is some experimentation with getting my linux machines and the Visor to chat with each other. Handspring doesnt indicate that they will be bothering with linux too much; their GNU tools for development are around simply because of the Palm freaks out there.

If I had to guess about it, Handspring has too much to deal with to be bothering with linux right now. I dont blame them. Traditionally, linux volunteers have been able to get by with sparse information from the manufacturer and produced quality software as a result. This is just another instance. Frankly, Im excited about toying with it because usually people develop things for linux long before I get around to being able to experiment myself. Not this time!

Lets all pray for an early ship date.
