Cross Stylus

Has anyone here bought one of the Cross Stylus mentioned in the "Rumble Away" story? Does it truly fit well in the Visor Silo? Are they for sale n any retail stores?

I'm a bit suspicious of this stylus. My understanding is the many PDA styli are not interchangeable. So, is it a universal stylus that (most likely) won't fit a Visor?

On the web page it states:

quote:
Available in four colors: Blue, Black, Silver, and Orange. Slim design fits most leading brands, including: Palm m500, m505, m100, m105, III Series, V Series, VII Series; Handspring Visor Prism, Visor DeLuxe, Visor, Visor Platinum & Sony Cli .

Clicking on the details link only lists 1 SKU (there are 6 different Pilot Pentopia Chameleon's) which would indicate to me there aren't any device-specific models. .

Now, if Cross wants to send me a Black one (SKU 192-2CS), I'd be glad to put it through its paces and verify the fit! Heck, I'll even write a review!

Well I was a bit wary of this myself when I entered it into the product database while back. One of hte reasons I worded the news item the way it was, I think it might stick up abot uhalf an inch out of the visor.

As for universality - all Palm OS pda's have a pretty simliar stylus, (cept for the edge and some exceptions) where it's a roudn barrel, and a special top, it's proably possible to make a combo top that can work with many PDA's...

btw, the orange is best..

When I checked the site, there were different SKUs for each
stylus. I just want to know if there is a reset pin that will work
on the Visors. I'm going to e-mail them and I'll let everyone know.

Cross Stylus

I just purchased one at my local Staples. Here are my first impressions.

It contains no reset pin.
It takes the (now standard) short ball point refills.
It is shorter than the stock Handspring stylus by 3.5 mm with the ball point retracted, and about 1 mm longer with the ball point extended.
The "clip" is virtually identical to that on a Palm III stylus, but fits into the silo on my Platinum. However, when pushed all the way down, it was a bit difficult to retrieve. I had to resort to fingernails in the grooves as opposed to just my thumb.
It is slightly thinner than the stock stylus, noticeable upon inspection but not when I hold it.
I like the rubberized coating.
I am still deciding whether I like the stylus tip. It is hard like the stock stylus, but much more pointed.
On the screen, no protector used, it is very slick, but not uncontrollable.
Weight is just slightly more than the stock stylus (sorry no measurement) and balance is good.

I will probably keep it in my Visor, but it will not replace my Platinum Executive 3-way as my primary stylus.
