SD memplug

In anticipation of a Secure Digital memplug (or competitor), which is now being worked on according to VC post, I have been looking for comparative performance info against the existing CF and SM media. I know they are smaller (almost too small and easy to lose),and pricier. Any experience on speed, power consumption, durability, etc.? It would be nice to have access to the prepackaged SD cards I would expect to be on their way for Palm's 500 series users.Did Palm get it right when they chose SD?
