VisorPhone piercing noise

This week my Visor Phone (in NYC with VoiceStream) has occassionally interrupted my conversations with a high-pitched ringing noise, like feedback. When this happens I can no longer hear the person to whom I'm speaking, and they can't hear me. Sometimes it goes away and the connection is fine, other times I just have to hang up and try again.

Has anyone experienced this? Since it is a new phenomenon, do you think it is simply interference with something else in the vicinity? What could it be?
