Easy enough to pop in the backup module and restore everything onto the PRISM. Then I notice buttons are working kinda funny. The screen seems to require extra taps to make things happen. I had even read about a similar phenomenon in other threads. So I went in a checked PREFS and decided to do a digitize and everything works great now.

I've noticed that the digitizer gets a little off when the Prism's battery is low, so watch out for that.

James...

Do you think this explains the problem people are having with Grafitti on the Prism? Have you too experienced poor recognition using Grafitti? Hope to get my Prism next week.

TIA,
David

I initially had a problem with Graffiti too at the beginnning, but I narrowed it down not training the digitizer properly.

In fact, I had to do it a few times very very carefully before the Prism's handwriting recognition and screen tapping accuracy were back to the Visor Deluxe standard.

Just remember - when digitising, do it as accurately as possible - it makes a lot of difference on the Prism, unlike in the Deluxe.

Post bad screen possible cause for digitizer errors

I've been using a Prism for a little over a week, and noticed a digitizer problem affecting both my original Prism and the replacement I sent for. Using BugMe, I observed the appearance of stray lines when I tapped certain parts of the screen. The line would originate approximately 4-20mm away from the tap point and draw toward the tap point. It's the same kind of phenomenon that occurs when you strike two points on the screen at once.

The problem arises usually when I tap lightly, especially in the upper left corner of the screen--the very area of the first digitizer target! This can throw off the whole digitizing process. I usually have to digitize three or four times--tapping hard--before I'm confident that my screen taps are registering accurately.

If you have BugMe, please do this test and report back your findings: Tap various points of the screen with varying pressure and see if you have any problem with stray lines appearing. (Brightness settings hasn't had any affect on the appearance of these lines on the two units I've had.)

Arrow None

Got BugMe on a Prism and I didn't see any stray lines.

Talking

I don't have BugMe, but I had much trouble with the digitizer accuracy. Resetting the digitizer had no real effect, even after a hard reset (which Handspring support suggested I do to test accuracy on a clean system).

Tapping very hard seems to have made things much better - I am finding that you have to just press harder on the Prism than on the Deluxe no matter what you do. This is without a screen protector on, even.

Arrow NO Problem

Not having any problems with the new Prism I am trying out. The tapping and graffiti problems I was experiencing with the one I had last week is gone.

I definitely have problems with the digitizer in the Graffiti area on my Prism. I'm still waiting for my replacement. I probably reset my digitizer dozens of times while I was testing it so I know that that didn't solve my problem

Ragamuffin,
I've done some testing with BugMe! and I don't see any stray lines appearing however hard I tap or where I tap on the screen. I do seem to remember reading that this stray line phenomenon was an indication of a problem digitizer. You may want to do more testing.

Smile thanks, folks

Thanks for doing the test, folks. I appreciate it.

Per Kalahari's suggestion, I did more testing on both Prisms (I still have the first one). With or without a WriteRight (I shed a tear everytime I have to strip a perfectly good overlay!), the problem occurs.

I sent for another replacement....

There have been no stray lines in bugme! on my visor. My accuracy has improved greatly after about a week of using my visor heavily. Maybe the vinyl (or whatever it is) over the top of the glass needs to be broken in.

Lightbulb

I too experienced the graffiti recognition problem (thought it had something to do with being left handed LOL) with the Prism, and very careful re-digitizing did help. Also, I did the old Scotch tape trick over the graffiti area and that has helped immensely. Give it a try...
