There has being a lot of talk about the sizes of the new units that's coming out...so I guess size does matter!! 
I have compiled the measurement of most of the Handhelds, so everything will be in one place for easy reference.
Palm m500:
4.5" x 3.1" x 0.4" wt. 4.0 oz
Palm m505:
4.5" x 3.1" x 0.5" wt. 4.9 oz
Sony Clie PEG-N210C:
4.67" x 2.8" x 0.66" wt. 5.6 oz
Sony Clie PEG-S300:
4.62" x 2.8" x 0.63" wt. 4.27 oz
Handspring Edge:
4.7" x 3.1" x 0.44" wt. 4.8 oz

Handspring Visor:

As you can see, the Clie is not that much bigger than the m505...only 0.17" longer and 0.16" thicker. I think you can fit the Clie in your pocket as easy if not easier than the m505 because it's narrower.
It's not like the Compaq:

Hmm...actually, the iPaq is thinner than the Clie2, but a bit longer and 12% heavier (but not as heavy as the Prism). Weight may be the biggest single factor overall (and it's interesting that the Clie2 is tad heavier than the original Visor), but I disagree with you about pocketability. At least when you consider a shirt pocket, weight and thickness is more important than width (compare a Palm m505 to a Visor, which is slightly narrower but thicker and heavier)
Compared to the m505:
Clie2: +0.17" (+3.8%) x -0.3" (-9.7%) x +0.16" (+32%), +0.7oz (+14.3%)
Visor: +0.30" (+6.7%) x -0.1" (-3.2%) x +0.2" (+40%), +0.5oz (+10.2%)
iPaq: +0.61" (+13.6%) x +0.18" (+5.8%) x +0.12" (+24%), +1.4oz (+28.6%)
