Notice that they didn't say "Springboard Dead".

WOW! That thing is amazing. Anybody want to buy my MiniJam?

I highly doubt that they will sell these disks for "between $5 and $10" though, considering the cost of the items they are replacing. I wonder about stability though, for an mp3 player. It doesn't look solid state at all.

Here's the kicker though:

quote:
This technology will let content providers such as Universal, Warner, or Sony Music sell prerecorded DataPlay discs with music from all their artists. The songs would be coded to the serial number on the disc, so pirates wouldn't be able to copy the content from one disc to another.

HMMM...

IMHO it is 'just' a (very) small CD-R or second gen. MD....
It is WORM (Write Once Read Many) and contains 500Mb

It is VERY small though

The only down side is, it need moving parts... so potential skipping again...
That is the good part about the MP3 players, they have no moving parts, so no skipping and no wear and tear...

Don't think there will be a spingboard for this one... it probably uses too much power... and needs a motor so that will make it big...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?

Perhaps that is the wholesale price they will offer to Universal, Warner, or Sony. Those companies will then fill the disks with content, and sell them with a price jacked up to whatever the market will bear.

Yeah, that part is disquieting. I've got a bad feeling about this...
