Question

I am going to receive my VD next week. Since I am living in HK, it will be
troublesome if there is any thing wrong on my VD because as I know
Handspring will not provide any supporting service (e.g. repairs and
maintenance) to overseas users at the moment. Besides, I did not have any
PDA before. I have no idea what areas I should pay attention when I am
using my new "toy". I will be glad if anyone can provide me with your
experience and advice.

There are so many users not satisfied with the performance of stylus which
has caused scratches on the screen. Do you think it is necessary to use
screen protectors like WriteRight? How serious is the scratch? Do the
scratches affect the performance? Apart from the stylus, any other design
defects?

I will be pleased if you can give advice to the rookie (that's me).

Thanks.

Hello! Glad to have you on-board. It is true, you have to be careful regarding those screen scratches. In my opinion, do 2 things.

Replace the stock stylus that comes with visor. Its too light, and the tendency is to write harder on the screen. There's also been reports that the tip of this stylus is not smooth. Get a better stylus, such as the handspring deluxe 5-pack styli or the pda panche stylus.

Next, also get screen protection. WriteRight works, but they're pretty costly. Heard there's a "Screen Plus" PDA screen protective layer that's being sold in Hong Kong. The model No. for Visor is SPG201. Check out http://www.hkstar.com/~pdahk/Main.html
There are also other HK stores selling it cheaper I heard.

Lastly, get a decent case that would protect the visor from spilla and falls. Heard a lot of cracked screens with Visors and Palms so I think the extra protection is worth the cost. There are so many options for cases depending on your need. Just read up in the accessories section here in this forum and you'll see what I mean. I'm shopping for one myself and I'm leaning towards the Rhosiana case. Check out its review in the main page of visorcentral.

Well, hope that helps. How'd you manage to buy a visor anyway since I don't think Handspring is entertaining international orders yet? Good luck. And if you happen to get hold of those Screen Plus screen protection in HK, do get me some as well and I'll trade you a couple of the deluxe stylus that comes with the 5-pack which I ordered.

Dvdgene,

Thanks for your advice.

Right. HS does not entertain overseas buyers at the moment. So I asked my friend in US to order for me and shipped it to me then. My friend told me he got the VD two days ago. Thats why I know I will get it next week.

I will go to buy the Screen Plus tomorrow. (Hope I can find it !) Let me know your mailing address via email. I will send you some if I get it.
