Talking

What happened Handsprung, losing your nerve? I can't believe you're finally admitting that like the rest of the antsy gadget-freaks, you too are feeling the urge to explode. LOL, I'm just kidding man, it's just good to see that you too are human.

I am impressed by all you "early adopters". It reminds me of when I bought my first PalmPilot. I read about it in PC Week, then I walked in to a "Wiz" store and bought it on the spot even though I had a relatively new Newton with me. I hope you don't go through same frustration waiting for each new Springboad module!

Of course the ordering system has everything to do with shipping. Where do you think orders to be shipped are stored? I know they have said that our orders are on paper, but in order for them to have one customer database in the future all orders need to be input.

My thought is that the paper orders are to be input as they are shipped, That way the tracking software the billing software and the warranty system will all be there when you receive your Visor.

How many calls do you think they will get, after they have shipped and we have received our Visor, for returns, warranty work, billing questions ect... The have to have these orders in the ordering system prior to shipping. It just makes sense, at least to me. Look at what we are seeing now with the confirmations some can be found others can't.

I'd bet that within a day or two of the online ordering system coming back up someone reports receiving thier Visor.

As Always,
My Humble Opinion,
Bill

My buddy and I orderd ours 9/15 first thing in the morning.

I called yesterday and changed my shipping to overnight. My friend called a half hour ago and was told he could not change color, they have shipped (sound familiar to anyone?).

So I called to verify my shipping address (forgot to confirm that yesterday) and they told me that Handspring now had my order, and it should go out in the next week.

As we all know the CSRs do not know much, I am inferring from this that the early orders have been handed off to Handspring. I as a CSR would also figure HS wanted them in order to ship.

I guess I am not really giving any new information, just a more updated rehash of the old stuff. When I see it, I will see it.

Here's some additional food for thought: If they are using a contract CSR they are probably using a contract fee warehouse. Typical fee warehouse operations state that they must have a minimum number of units on hand prior to them warehousing for shipment. Also, the original projections might have thrown off the space dedicated for housing the units and I guarantee that a contract warehouse shipper will not ship until these bugs have worked out. Also, until the software/hardware is correct with the manufacturer.

Some of the bugs at the web site lend me to believe that warehouse/handspring have not worked out the transaction software/tracking/shipping issues.

There is good news and bad news: My credit card has not been charged but nor have I received my Visor.

I would think that more than 5,000 units have been ordered so far...I'd think that it is well past the 10K mark because of the number of issues with the web,csr etc. If 5M Pilots have shipped in 3.5 years assume 1M shipped in a year that is 83,000 units per month. With all of the hype is it unreasonable to assume that since 9/14 that over 10,000 units have been ordered? Nah!

Give Handspring a break...they didn't know so many of us would swamp them with orders!

PS: When Pilot started shipping in early 96 the internet was really just getting started. Most of their sales were word of mouth or casually informed people. Now the Internet, how many people were monitoring the Handspring web site before 9/14 waiting for annoucements? How many people in 96 heard about the Pilot before it was actually released? Hawkins and Dubinsky remembered the original sales of the Pilot and thought that the Visor would follow similar pattern....oops! Get off their backs and start screaming only if we don't have the units before Nov. 1st.

I've been waiting since the 14th of September for my first PDA or PIM or whatever. All I can say is, it will come when it comes, I'm so sick of getting excited and wasting tons of time looking to see what's been updated or if I've been billed. Erg. I asked to have it shipped next day... does that mean I would get it the day after I'm billed?

What you say makes sense, RSGMOOSE.. I dont know anything about contracted
warehousing/shipping but their actions are consistent with what you are saying....
Your P.S. was another good point... I called CS a few days ago and the CRS told me he
estimnated 8,000-9,000 units have been ordered to date...For what it is worth !
