Ideal Visor

Heres what I would like to see in a new Handspring. Firstly a union Edge and Prism (edges slimness and prisms color) kinda like those doctored Dataviz ads. A higher resolution would be nice but not necessary if they kept the quality they had in their original Prism. Next instead of a sled something more like compaq's cf sleeves. This new design would have at least one springboard slot and a slot for compactflash or smart media or mmc or maybe another springboard slot. If handspring really wanted to undercut someone the extra slot could be sony's memory stick or palm's new POS system. Some extra software (ie Docs to Go) would be nice. I think this would be the push Handspring needs to really return to the prominance they reached after VDX.

I would like to see a color Edge that can accept the modules without the extra sled. I think size would be a factor in this though. It seems such a waste that future products would not be able to use existing modules. We got a glimpse of this with the news on the Treo.

As far as other memory cards, I'd like to see modules that could accomodate Memory Stick, SD, and the other memory card formats.

I get the feeling that the Springboard may slowly become obsolete if future models aren't going to support it. At least we'll have the inexpensive older models to use them.

I hate the edge. That springboard sled is ridiculous, imo. I would settle for a VDX form factor color unit with some very pumped up specs. A screen like sony's color unit (I'm using my prism outside more often and the screen is starting to drive me a little nutty). 16+MB RAM, the new 66 Mhz or whatever dragonball, rechargeable battery pack (swappable, for those 6+ hour plane flights and car trips, yuck) and maybe some simple built in two way pager-like features.

My Dream Visor:

1. it will have a metal case simular to the edge but will have the colors of the new treo.

2. it will have 16mb memory in a combination of 14mb rom and 2mb flash.

3. the prossesor will be anywhere from 45 to 66mhz

4. it will have a 16 bit high-resolution 320x320 color screen. that is viewable in daylight.

5. it will have a springboard slot(no sled).other card expansion can be included if it wont affect visor size.

6. it will use the same rechareble battery expept it will be slightly larger.

7.the buttons will be concave, the stylus will be the same as the one used in the delux.

8. it wont have any phone, wireless, internet capablities unless a modual is attached.

9. it will use an inhanced ir port that can beem at least 20ft away, that will be located on top.

10. you will be able to connect an ac adapter to it to recharge it.

11. it will have the option of alarm, flashing light(located on top), or both.no vibrater otherwise it would increase the size of the visor.

12.it should be called something like the visor neo

13.it wont have the keypad, it will use the same silkscreen area.

14. on handspring's website you will have the option of customizing you own unique visorby choosing: color of silkscreen area, body case color, buttons color, flashing light color, you can have your intitials ingraved inside the visor case(helpful to prove its yours), and which side stylus is located on.

15. it wont have the jog wheel unless by adding it, it wont increase the size of the visor.

16. it wont be any larger than the delux.

17.the digitizer will be made of a new scratch and crack resistant compound.

18. it should be priced between $300 to $500.




does this sound resonable? i think so. maybe now or a year later.

yeah, thats what i ment. somethimes i forget the different types of memory. rom, ram, flash, smart, compact, etc
