Hi. I was an original Visor owner back in November... my screen scratched so I got WriteRights. Then I got annoyed looking at WriteRights so I sold my Visor on Ebay (I only lost $5 for a scratched unit).

I bought a Palm Vx which I love. Not being one to use springboards, the size, rechargability, and strong design make it a perfect unit. I have not used any screen protection and in 5 months there is not 1 scratch on the screen (and I abuse the hell out of it using pens, fingers, anyhting to write besides needles)

However, I am having memory problems, and need more than 8 MB... meaning I will soon be selling Vx. My replacement options are: TRG Pro or Visor (8mb flash module).

Does the Visor screen still scratch? Do you have to use WriteRights to prevent scratching? If so, I will probably get a TRG. I know that the Visor now comes with the Deluxe stylus instead of that cheap one I got in November.

Also, does anyone know if you can run Griffith 5 minute clinical consult (or LexiDrugs) off of the 8 MB flash springboard?

I'm afraid to say I am on my 4th visor (2 weeks old--1 stolen, 1 returned for screen scratches, 1 returned for screen scratches and memory issue, new one) and the screen is already scratching. I had a Pilot 5000 for almost 2 years with narry a scratch. Extremely frustrating. I don't use the wrightrites, because they make the screen too blurry. I need to try some of the less obscuring examples people have recommended.

you probably can use a 3rd party stylus and your screen won't scratch

A 3rd party stylus is an option. Though, I really want to hear of a Visor owner who doesn't use writerights, who has an unblemished screen. It is so frustrating that their screen is cheap. Yeah WriteRights work but they are an extra cost and I think they detract from the clarity of the screen...

If your objection to WriteRights is the textured version that makes the screen less visable, try the WRs for the Palm IIIc. They fit the Visor screen perfectly. Their perfectly clear, doesn't even look like the screen has any protection on it at all.

I also like the Write Rights for the Palm IIIc. They are MUCH clearer than the regular Palm III WR's. I can barely notice it's on the screen.

IIIc WRs, eh? I'll have to give them a try.

I didn't really mind the regular ones though. Sure they're not as clear, but damn be my greasiness and THAT annoys me more than anything. Plus, I'm way too used to reduced glare that I can't stand mine now without a WR.

I've noticed a friend of mine's Palm V has a much harder glass screen. The screen on my Visor seems like it has a plastic screen or overlay. It doesn scratch much easier than the Palm V. I've tried the Concept Kitchen screen protectors, but didn't like the nonglare feature. I haven't been able to find the clear ones for the IIIc in retail. My current solution is to use the window cling sheets and it works ok, but they do scratch fairly easily. There is the other manufacturer of the patented screen protectors, but after following his disjointed ramblings, I decided against his product. Maybe the new Visor coming out this fall will have an improved screen.

I had problems with my screen scratching and wasn't happy with the quality of a screen protectors I bought on eBay. I read somewhere here on VC about someone that had used vinyl purchased in the fabric department at Wal Mart and gave it a try earlier this week. I need to get something set up to make it easier to cut out a pattern, but I'm very pleased with its appearance and it's nice to write on. It's glossy, but I don't think any more so than the regular screen. It is very inexpensive; I bought one square yard of the material for $.87 and the cost should be a penny or less each!
