Angry

Finally got to unwrap and use my Prism after Christmas morning. It was killing me to wait. After entering a huge amount of data copied from my sharp wizard, I did my first HotSync and was pleased at the results... until I looked closer to discover that all of my items are now "unfiled", and all of my categories are gone.

What did I do wrong???

When you install Palm Desktop and hotsync it for the first time with a visor already full of information you need to make sure that the categories on Palm Desktop match those on the visor. Those that don't are marked unfiled, but only in Palm Desktop. I'd delete that user name, create a new user with the same name, change the categories in Palm Desktop to make sure they match those on your prism, make sure that your in the "ALL" category (for the address book, memo pad, and to do list) before you hotsync or all your information will be put in the active category, and then hotsync again. That should clear up your problem.

Arrow

If you use Outlook, click the PocketMirror icon inside Outlook then go to the settings for you Palm profile.

Go to the different areas (contacts, etc) and on the Misc tab (I think) there is an option for if you want to use the categories from Outlook or Palm. Change it to the other one. You can only have 15 categories btw.

Question

whilst we're on categories. What are the rules when beaming?

I beamed the whole "Family" category to my Dad's new palm and they all ended up unfiled. Is there any way round this? and are there any other 'category' issues to be aware of?

I thing beamed items come into unfiled. Not sure if he has Palm OS 3.5 though.

I'm not sure, but I think that if the beamed category exists on the receiving unit, it will place the items in it. If not, they go to Unfiled by default.

Beaming Catagories w/Datebook 4

I'm testing Datebook4 on my Prism. I told my wife that both of us should get it (full version) after 5 days of using the 45 day trial version.

If you look at DB4's beam Category options, it asks if you want to receive categories as they come from the sender or specify your own. Also, it allows you to delete the category of the receiver to overlay the whole new category.

Like when my flying club junk gets updated... The wife never updates anything in that category. She just wants to know what days I have committed to in the schedule. I usually update them only. I do a beam category - with pre-delete, and wham, she gets the whole mess categorized without dupes.

Gotta love this stuff.

Sound interesting, I assume that DB4 must be installed on both devices?

Does anyone know if Action Names has a similar feature?
