Question

My USB cradle continues to indicate it cannot Hot Synch because it cannot communicate with the desktop. According to my PC my USB ports are working properly & I have tried the HotSynch with both USB ports but no luck!

ANY help would be appreciated. I want to HotSynch with MS Outlook 2000

Try resetting the Visor. Many people have had a problem with the Sync until they reset.

Harry,
If your using a secondary type of program that allows you to warm boot, use the reset button on the back - just a soft reboot will do it.

I know I'm not contributing anything new, but I did just personally run into this...

I used my Visor for several days over the Thanksgiving break and it was hotsyncing fine right before I left...

I got back and tried to hotsync and nothing would work. I tried rebooting my PC, my USB hub, and changing USB ports.

I went to the Handspring site and it said to soft reset the visor, so I did so through the menu option in Launcher III... still didn't work.

Went ahead and mutilated a paperclip and did a reset that way... worked just fine after words.

Not sure why the synching would have quit working except that I changed the batteries at one point.

I had the same exact problem as LarryD! I did a reset and my hotsync worked fine.

Same thing! Hot Sync worked fine, then after an absence of a few days, it wouldn't Hot Sync at all.
Did a reset with a paperclip and it worked fine.
Since then, I think it's quit synching another time, and once again, the reset fixed it.
This looks like a trend. I wonder if there's an "undocumented feature" (some might use the term "bug") in the Visor version of the software? It's hard for me to believe that coincidence is responsible for the same problem on so many different Visors.

Exclamation

I had the same problem, and I too only changed my batteries. Hmmmmm.

Sounds like a bug that may be more apparent in the coming months as lots of new users change their batteries...

I couldn't get mine to synch at the outset, then uninstalled the software, then tried again and got it to work.

Then had another problem, after several days, tried to delete my users in the desktop program, and that seemed to work.

My Visor Deluxe stopped syncing (via USB...serial syncing still worked fine) after i changed batteries too. Doing a reset from Hackmaster didn't help. Resetting with my stylus's reset pin in the back of the Visor did the trick.

Weird.

Cool

Thanks for all the info folks,
I had the same problem this morning,
and after reading quickly through
your responses I too used a paperclip
on the reset button. Problem solved
in no time. Thanks again.

Forgive my repeat comment from another
forum, but I am rather concerned about
this question:

Are there any drawbacks to daily (or
twice daily) soft resets in order to get
the Visor to HotSynch? I would hate for
this "problem" to have any long term
effects on my Visor.

I haven't been able to perform a hotsync (serial) since replacing the batteries two days ago. I've tried all the "fixes" listed in this thread. I've done a soft reset of Visor, checked desktop settings, closed and restarted desktop software, even reinstalled the desktop software. Still nothing. HELP

Help! I have never been able to sync the USB cradle. My Plam III worked and still works - and if I unplug the USB cradle my scanner works in the same port.

The reset trick does not help.

What else can I try?

I have been able to hot sync, but experienced the same problem where it would just stop. I got it working again by doing a hard boot, but now it will not sync again and nothing will work. I have hard booted reinstalled all software and nothing. I have also tested it with my colleagues Visor in the same cradle on the same machine and it works fine on his. What is the problem with this f'in thing. Do I need to send it back, or is there a fix that I am overlooking.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

TIA

My solution to this problem - Turn OFF ("Uninstall" within the Hackmaster) all the Hacks before HotSynching. You can re-activate the Hacks after the HotSync. I'm not sure if the problem is with the Hackmaster itself or any one or more of the Hacks I'm using - They're TealNotes 1.07, Battery Meter Hack 1.2, Switchhack 1.62, & Keyboard Hack 1.2. Any comments?

Thanks, but I am not using any hacks. Are any hacks, or the hack master automaitcally installed?

Just changed my batteries to see what would happen. No problem syncing with Battery Meter Hack and MenuHack still active and 2 AvantGo channels updated. (I got my Visor Deluxe not too long ago; maybe those having problems have older units?)
(BTW: HackMaster and all hacks have to be downloaded and installed from somewhere like PalmGear.com; they don't come with the device.)

Unhappy

My situation: Visor suddenly stopped syncing via USB. No amount of soft resetting or reinstallation of the desktop software helped. Tried all of the above again, after doing the registry edits suggested elsewhere on VisorCentral. No luck. In desperation, I went with a hard reset. Zilch. Left the batteries out for a day. Still no sync. So now I have an "empty" Visor and no choice but to call Handspring and see if I can get it replaced. I got mine back in November, so maybe this is a more pronounced problem with the "Revision A" units.

DavidMullins : You ask if there is any problem with repeated soft resets. Only a minor one -- Each soft reset creates 3 duplicate entries in the shortcuts database, which over time will be wasting precious RAM. There's a nice little program called DBScan that eliminates them.

I also had many problems with HOTSYSNC. I was OK until I had data on the visor that I wanted to get to the PC. I first did the reset button, than reinstalled the software, then replaced the visor and cradle. STILL NO GOOD!!!! Then I replaced the USB card, still no good!!! Then I went into CUSTOMIZE, turned off all transfers except a MEMO that I put on the PC. The memo transferred, then the transfer options went to their defaults, as is supposed to be, and then everything worked fine. I think HANDSPRING needs to take a look at this problem. Maybe it's on;y when the PC needs the update?????
