Just another way that Handspring is dying. I give the company 1 year to live unless they somehow become successful with the Treo. Goodbye Handspring, you were revolutionary at the time, but your time has passed. Twas nice knowing you. And the Vdx is my first PDA, it works faithfully but sadly is becoming outdated (and mine is beoming more stubborn by the day).

Unhappy Swing low...sweet chariot...

I would bet the Edge already has been quietly discontinued, with production having ceased. Even Handspring's executive officers publicly admitted the Edge was a "mistake". The market clearly rejected it, even after a series of consecutive price cuts. It's a dud.

A sign of consumers lack of interest in monochrome handhelds...and a sign of Handspring's reversing fortunes.

The RMS Titanspring is going down slowly...oh so slowly.

Sister slEdge

I am currently trying to decide how to replace my VDX. I might pick up a reconditioned VPL for $130. Or I might throw down the extra $100 and pick up a reconditioned Prism. Funny thing is, I wouldn't pick up an Edge, even for $50. I use my OmniRemote all the time, and I definately don't want to deal with a "sled". Apparently I am not the only one.

Frankly, as long as my next handheld runs Palm OS 3.5 and has the Dragonball VZ processor I won't consider it "dated" for atleast another 18 months.

To confuse things even further I am also considering holding out for the CDMA Treo from Amazon for $250. Unfortunately the current Treo service is unavailable in my area. I'd love to get into a Treo and switch my company cell phone over to the program.

But again. The Edge is simply out of the question.

I 'traded up' from a Deluxe to a Prism because I figured color was a big improvement. I never considered an Edge because I did not see the slim-line case as an advantage. Personally, while I think the Edge is prety cool, it just doesn't have anything in it that 'sells' itself to me.

Now, I find myself already thinking about another 'upgrade'- the Sony Clie' N610 is at SonyStyle.com for $250, and the 760 (I think it is) is/was at Best Buy for $350.

There are only a couple Handspring modules I find I REALLY use- and I can do most of their functions on the Clie' (memory exapansion is the biggie!) Hmmm, and the Clie's are about the same size as the Edge. Color AND slim-line case.

If only the Clie was not so darned 'quasi-retro' design!

Thumbs down Error!

I should point out that the Edge was not the first PDA to sport colored metal cases. Palm introduced a "Special Edition" Palm Vx almost a year before that, available in Blue and "Champagne".
