Yes, it is $129 on their website, without subscription. If you bought the $14.95 monthly subscription your total cost would be $179, so buying it separately only makes sense if you will never spend more than $50 during your first year.
What makes the most sense, just like with those old album and CD clubs that offered you a whole lot of free music for 1 cent if you bought the minimum (usually 6-12) full-price recordings over the next twelve months, is to subscribe, get the free Springboard, and stop your subscription after the minimum period. Remember, all your downloads are permanent, so choose wisely and get things that are sure to be classics you will enjoy over and over.
I would like to pick up a cheap Audible Advisor springboard myself only because then I could subscribe and get their tiny MP3 player (which will hold 17 hours of content vs. 4 hours on the Advisor). With 64 MB instead of 16 MB its really a much better deal, plus you could have unlimited content with additional memory cards. Heck you could even switch back and forth between music and books without changing Springboards!
And for some of the longer books 16 MB just won't cut it, although it would be nice for shorter books and audio programs like the Robin Williams interviews.
Still looking before I leap.....decisions, decisions....
