I may be jumping the gun a little here (since I haven't seen a single Edge SB come out yet) but has anyone thought about the implications of the Edge haveing a smaller SB slot? When/if companies start making the smaller slot SB's they won't be compatable with any of the previous Visors.

So, here's my thought. I'm guessing that Handspring kept the SB specifications the same for the Edge, just smaller. So some company should make a conversion module. Take a SB module, throw in an Edge SB receiver and voila (sp?) you've got yourself an Edge SB compatable Visor.

Of course, this is assuming that companies come out with new technologies in the Edge SB's, not just repeats of larger SB's. And then there is the price factor. While I think something like this should cost around $40 or $50, companies will probably market it for more around $80 - $100.

Anyway, that's my thoughts.

Handspring sells their edge-->Springboard adapter for 19.99. Presumably, doing the exact same thing in reverse shouldn't cost much more. Of course, that's assuming there will be any demand for such a thing...

"Not exactly" - Hertz commercial

The Edge connector has all of the capability of the SB slot, but not vice versa. There are signals in the Edge connector that the Springboard slot can't handle currently.

Edge connector pinouts on page 10.
Springboard pinouts on page 47.

Sorry.

Now I'm confused.

My understanding was that the Edge Springboard adapter actually only contained a "full size" Springboard slot hanging on the back of the Edge so that standard Springboard modules - like the Visorphone - could be used in the Edge.
- Am I totally wrong?
- I suppose that some company COULD design a "small springboard module" that fit in the Edge slot.
-- but where would they put the guts of the device. They would have to hang on the back anyhow - the slot is so narrow.
-- also - why would they want to? That would severely limit their potential market.

Yeah, especially if HS having trouble unloading their Edges as hinted to by their trade in program.

Nope, you're just confusing the original posters question. He's asking for the opposite of the Edge Springboard adapter (a module that slides into a VDx/Pl/Pr which gives it an Edge connector).

I wish someone would, preferably in the same anodized aluminum as the edge and with a built in flipcover for the screen.

No doubt, but I'm sure that it could be slimmed down a bit more than the current design.

It has been, by removing the plastic casing... I can't remember where I saw it...

Somebody posted it either here or at PDABuzz. Not an ideal solution, though, IMO.

Update: It was here.

Thanks, Toby. Still, looks like there should be a better solution. Maybe if the circutry were moved to below the SB instead of between it & the Edge? That would be fine w/ me, I just want it thinner

Not only D'oh, but...

I was also thrilled to see that 'Mullet' has finally achieved official recognition as a word. And yes, it should be D'oh with an apostrophe - maybe it will get listed as an alternate spelling in future editions

For more information about mullets, see http://www.mulletsgalore.com

It took me a couple of seconds to realize you were talking about the hairstyle and not the fish.
