Unhappy System Lockout

OK, this is really embarassing, but I'm hoping someone can help me out of a jam.

I enabled the one-stroke "off and lock" feature (where you run the stylus up the screen and it turns the device off, and can only be unlocked using a password) sometime ago. However, I never really used it.

As a result, I forgot the password.

I was in AvantGo this afternoon, and dragged the stylus a bit to make the page advance, and accidentally turned the device off and locked it. Still can't remember the password, despite trying a number of likely combinations.

I have a plan, but I'm hoping someone can confirm this will work - or maybe give me a better idea.

I have a backup module with a recent (yesterday) backup of my Prism. It is my understanding that a hard reset will enable you to circumvent the system lockout, at the cost of wiping out your data. Can I do a hard reset, and then restore with the backup?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I'll lose a bit of data (I think I input a new address or two), but they should reappear when I Hotsynch. I'm not running any other security apps. I do use "Secret" to store the stuff I really care about, like passwords (fat lot of good it does me when the device is locked :rolleyes, credit card numbers, etc.

I really can't believe I forgot the password. I know I picked something simple and short, but it just doesn't come to mind. The first signs of dementia at 35 - very scary.

Actually, you do't need to do a hard reset since back up module overwrites all the settings anyways. So if your visor was unlocked when you backed it up, it'll be unlocked after you restore it..

I did do the hard reset. The only glitch was when I hotsynched this morning - instead of uploading the stuff I input yesterday to the Visor, it deleted it from Outlook. I probably should have changed hte preferences to "desktop overrights handheld."

Fortunately, I had my most recent version of my calendar and contact data in my Blackberry, so I was able to fix that problem too. Who says having more than one PDA is just a luxury? If you are borderline senile like me, it's a necessity.
