Question Visor DX, Dead after IR upgrade brain-fart

Let me start by saying I am sorry if this questions has been answered before but I could not find a response.

Using a Visor Deluxe (OS 3.1H3) and I wanted to sync via IR port on my laptop so I went to the handspring site and followed these instructions. Shown Below between quote marks

"Step 1: Download and install the Enhanced Infrared Update.

You can find the Enhanced Infrared Update, an updater designed to improve the IR capabilities of the Palm III handheld, on Palm's support website. By fortuitous coincidence, one of the components of the Enhanced Infrared Update makes possible infrared HotSync with a Handspring handheld. Most of the functions of the update are already included in Handspring's products, so do not follow Palm's instructions for downloading and installing the software. If you do, you'll cause your handheld to crash. Instead:

Download the Enhanced Infrared Update from Palm's support site.
Decompress the downloaded file.
Open the irenhanc folder.
Double-click on SerIrCommLib.prc to add it to the list of files to be installed on your handheld. Make sure you've chosen your user name from the User pull down menu in the Install screen.
Conduct a HotSync operation.
Do not install AMX.prc, SerialIrPnl.prc or IrLib.prc. These applications will cause your handheld to crash."

Well I was an idiot and was not paying attention and I installed all four of the .prc's and sure enough my handheld crashed. Now I am tiring to delete these files and all I get is an error telling me that these files are in the ROM and can't be deleted. I have done a hard reset and that doesn't change anything. Can I reformat or reinstall the OS? Or is there anything else you might suggest?

Thank You

You should be able to remove the batteries and let it sit for an hour or so. That should completely erase anything at all that you have added.

There is no way that the program actually wrote anything to the ROM, so you should be fine.

You do need to go into Program Files | Palm and there will be a folder that is your initials. Open it and go into Backup and delete the files you do not need. Also make sure to check the Archive Folder for anything you do not want.

Now you should be able to perform a HotSync and restore all your data.

Also, there is no way to restore the OS. The OS is stored into Read Only Memory (ROM) and it cannot be Flashed. This means that it cannot be altered.

Anything that you install goes into Random Access Memory (RAM). This RAM must maintain an electrical charge to hold its data, that is why removing the batteries should erase everything.

Good luck and please let us know if this works or if you need further assistance.
