Visorphone plans

My family just got tired of Sprint PCS, so my dad decided to switch. I'm urging them to go with Voicestream, so I can get Visorphone. This is hard, me, being the only visor owner in the family. Is there any way to get Visorphone as one of two or three different phones in a plan?

Currently, I have cingular because of the family plan w/free unlimited mobile to mobile and shared primary plan minutes.

Doesn't Cingular work with the VisorPhone?

I'm thinking of switching (just MY Sprint phone, not anyone else in the family's) and getting a VisorPhone. Cingular is the only service that shows up when I type in my zip code.

I'm wondering how people like Cingular (service, coverage, rates, etc?) and whether Handspring is coming out with a newer version of the phone in the near future.

Anyone have any opinions/answers?

I looked at a coverage map. Very little coverage. But then again, you gotta expect not to be able to use a cell phone in the middle of Amish country . I should note that when I used a frind's Cingular phone, it was very clear. VoiceStream has a similar coverage area.

Dont know the answer, however, my plan is with Cingular but I can use Voicestream when in their area.

Well, some friends and I were went biking in near Lancaster, Pa., and there was no cell phone coverage. Not even roaming.

The nice thing about Voicestream and Cingular and VisorPhone is that they're all GSM. If you open up the phones they have a small 32k chip in there called a SIM card. You can take this out and put it into another GSM phone and it will work on your account. My family has the cingular mobile to mobile family plan and i could take one of my parent's phones and pop in my chip and it would work as my phone. I'm pretty sure it would even transfer all of my phone numbers over with it

One more thing,
I have no idea how that pertains to your problem (i'm running on 3 hours of sleep right now) but I guess what I was tyring to say was that you can interchange the phones. So i don't think it matters to voicestream if you have a visorphone and everybody else has a nokia.

Did you get a VisorPhone? Since Handspring dropped the price to $49, I really want to get one. The problem is whether State College is covered or not? Have you heard any of your friends about using VisorPhone at Penn State? The only GSM carrier here is Conestoga(recommended by JoePa). I don't know if I can buy a VisorPhone with a plan here although Handspring shows State College is covered by VoiceStream.

In the Philadelphia area, the coverage is extremely loose. I can't imagine the coverage in western Pa. being any better. But I think the coverage is too loose even for me. Oh well. Will Handspring be coming out with any phones that aren't GSM?

Always ask questions!

When you consider a visor phone don't hesitate to ask questions. I was going to pass because the cheapest plan they showed for my area was a Powertel 50 rate plan for $60 (600 minutes). Well, my wife has Powertel and gets 3600 minutes (600 anytime, 3000 weekend-nights) for $40.
So I called Powertel and they said - oh you can switch to whatever plan you want. They have a plan for $20 with 100 anytime minuts and 1000 weekend-nights. I think I can sell that to my Domestic Supervisor (a.k.a. wife )

So the moral of this rambling story is "Always ask questions!"
