I heard--at least I thougth I did that you should always leave Beam Receive off. That was the first thing I did when I got my BDx. The thing I wonder is--is this true? How much faster will this drain my batteries? The reason I ask is that it's a big hassle to have to turn on beam receive whenever I want to receive something (the same for my friend with a Visor). Also, is there an app which lets me do this much easier? Or can I do a shortcut to it? Thanks for your help!

I belive that if you do shortcut, '.' 'i' it will turn on your beam receive for 5 seconds, and if it doesn't find anything, it will turn it back off again.

How exactly do I input that shortcut? I'm very new and haven't used shortcuts. Can I do it with any program open?

Yes, you can do it from any application. To initiate it, draw the shortcut character which looks like a cursive lowercase 'L', then two dots and the the 'i'. A window should popup saying 'Waiting for Sender' and will remain active for 5 seconds.
