Anyone willing to explain to me the benefits of one device vs the other? Price, features, usage? I might be interested in getting one of them, but need more info to decide. If this subject has been hashed out already, kindly point me in the right direction. Thanks!

basically the HS modem is jus a 33.6Kbs modem at $129 while the innogear 6pak is 6 thing at 'less than $200'....
the 6 things are:
1.WIRELINE MODEM: V.90 phone modem connects at up to 56Kbps directly to phone lines
..without the need of any dongle

2.CELLULAR CAPABLE MODEM: External expansion port allows a data connection with
..Cellular phones while on the road

3.VOICE RECORDER WITH SPEAKER: Records and plays back voice messaged over an
..integrated speaker

4.VIBRATING ALARM: Silent alert (vibratory) allows for alarms in situations where beeps are ..inappropriate

5.FLASHING LED ALARM: Visual alert flashes red or green through the integrated hotsync & ..record/playback button

6.MORE MEMORY FOR YOUR VISOR: 8-Megabytes of Flash memory allows for OEM
.. developer bundles, program storage and data backup.

Think of it this way: for less than the combined price of the Handspeing modem and 8mb module, you get a better modem, all the other stuff listed in ToolkiT's reply, AND you can use the modem and the 8MB at the same time.

Also consider that the Handspring modem is shipping now, and Innogear's is due this Summer. If you're willing to wait, fine. I went ahead and purchased the Handspring Modem, and when Innogear's comes out I'll purchase it, test it out, then probably sell my Handspring Modem. I'll be out a little money, but at least I can use the modem now rather than waiting for something that hasn't even shipped yet.

I'm doing the same as d_anders.

Bought the Handspring modem now and then selling it in the summer (already have 2 buyers!)

On the comparison note:

People forget to mention the Handspring Modem requires 2AAA batteries where as the Six-pack draws power from the Visor for all it's functions.

Good point about the battery. My modem now seems to drain the main batteries now. It's probably going to be a real drain with the six pack.

lol. guess I'll have to rework my case (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/Forum3/HTML/000433.html) to hold 3 extra pairs of AAA's instead of 1 pair.. hehe I'm REALLY skeptical that the SIXPAK will not eat batteries like a power hungry mechanical arrdvark (Sosueme, I couldn't think of anything that ate a lot of batteries ). My PalmV Modem sucked 2 AAA's dry in about 4 hours. and that was a power source outside the Palm Unit.. Hmm..

So, is that 6 pack release this summer confirmed? I thought it was suppose to be this spring. This is the one thing holding me up from buying the handspring. I'm one of those buy it when I know for sure it will do everything I want.

Everyone seems to be forgetting the most important difference between the SixPak and the Handspring modem: the SixPak fits perfectly into the Springboard slot, while the Handspring modem hangs over the top of the Visor and sticks out of the back a centimeter or two.

Another difference is that Handspring's modem is 33.6 kbps, whereas the SixPak's modem is V.90 56k. (Not that you'd be able to tell the difference in the two while browsing the web on a Visor.)

Ok, I'll be the first to admit, I'm looking forward to *really* taking my BVD on the road w/ me w/o lugging the laptop around. So I guess I'm looking for a device that will let me do a quick and dirty check of email and faxing, but not necessarily web browsing.

I've got a Nokia cell phone and it sounds like Innogear is working on a connector for the 6-pak and the phone. I can't seem to figure out whether the Hand Spring modem will provide the same support. Has ayone else heard otherwise?
