Question

Hi everybody,

I have two question for visor owners. I have an Ice Deluxe, and I've noticed some things I find annoying.

[1]

There is a 2mm band of screen area just below the pixels but above the opaque Graffiti+4icons area which is a "dead" area on the Palm III, dead in the sense that nothing happens if you tap there (and this seems normal to me). However, on my Ice, it is considered part of the opaque area. So, if I'm in the default Addressbook and scrolling down through my entries via the down triangle arrow at the lower right hand side of the screen and happen to tap a wee bit below the tip, the Calculator app launches.

I find this annoying. Problem with my unit, or are others finding this as well? And is there a patch available?

[2]

My screen is perfect (well, not as slippery as Palm screens, but this is covered in other threads) if the unit is cool (not carried in my shirt pocket, etc), but when I do warm up the unit, the center of the screen starts to show "thin-film" interference patterns, often extending to about 1.75cm from the edges. I don't have a picture to post, but the closest I can find is http://bednorzmuller87.PHYS.CMU.EDU...ce/demo326.html (mine will be blobby in shape, not as nicely circular as on the CMU webpage, and of course in the pale green visor screen color).

Anybody notice this? Thanks for your time!

Don't know about question 2 as mine seems fine, but as far as question 1, this topic has been discussed extensively on Visor Central. The best solution was to go into your Digitizer and tap just a bit lower on the lower right target (1 mm). This fools the Visor into thinking that problem portion of screen is higher than it really is.

Hope this helps.

Cool

The "thin-film interference patterns" are harmless. They are common to the Palm Pilot computers, where they are termed "oil stains". Just ignore them

Question

Update on my screen:

[item 2]
Apparently, the thin filming appears after I store it in the leather slipcase for a while. It is less severe if I slip a piece of paper between the screen and the case. (I don't use the clip-on cover because it makes my IVD fatter, and I might break the top groove plastic.) My guess is that some of the foam or other synthetic items used to make the case are outgassing some plasticiers or solvents to cause the outside screen layer to expand a little bit. Yes, after a while the screen goes back to normal.

[3]
New item
The plastic around the screen meets the screen flush around the top, left, and right edges. On the bottom edge, the plastic bulges up at around the telephone and up-down buttons enough to slip a fingernail underneath. Otherwise, the other edges are flush with the screen. Anybody else's like this?

Thanks!

Hey BigCow,
In reply to your last post (#3 obs.) I have been submitting my VDX to a pretty thorough exam after reading all these complaints and am happy (for me, not you) to say mine doesn't bulge anywhere.

Talking

Sure. I had the same problem, but there is a simple fix that seems to work just fine for me. Go to Preferences and respecify the dimensions of your screen. When it asks you to touch the lower right hand point, be a little more gracious and touch the screen slightyly lower that point actually is. This way the visor thinks you have more screen area. Try it and let me know how it works.

Lots of others had this problem, but I think I figured out how to fix it. This topic thread might also be helpful http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000027.html

Cheers,
Wes
