I've recently been having a multitude of different problems with my Visor. Roughly in order of appearance, they are:

- Decreased performance. Very slow going from app. to app.
- Decreased Graffiti recognition. Have to write very slow.
- Inability to HotSync. It won't recognize that it's on the cradle.
- Fatal exeptions when accessing data.
- Screen jumping and flickering after being on for about thirty seconds.
- Fatal exceptions when trying to backup to springboard. Every time.
- Deleted all data on backup module.

Restoring from backup module didn't work, deleting hacks and excess programs didn't work, soft resets didn't work, installing the OS patch didn't work, hard reset didn't work, banging it sharply and repeatedly against my forehead didn't work.

I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

Was that the screen side or the backside?

Doesn't sound normal. One suggestion (and an extreme one at that), since you claim to have already done the hard reset, would be to hard reset again and then remove the batteries overnight. Put in a fresh set, hard reset again, and start over. If this doesn't improve the situation, I'd say you have a defective unit.

Fatal Exceptions and New Batteries

Interesting. Yesterday I was having constant Fatal Exception out of a hotsync yesterday: Turn on V after hotsync, "Fatal Exception" message box, soft reset again, pref screen, "Fatal Exception" message box after up to 1 minute. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Called HS technical support. Suggested I hard reset to blow everything away and start completely over, including moving backup directory(ies) to Windows Desktop, then put files back one at a time on sequential Hotsyncs. California must really be laid back -- who has time for that.

When I suggested taking out batteries and put in new set, he acted like I was out of my mind. Then he told me to try that but did not mention putting in new set. I did it anyway, and I think I am back to normal now. Did not put backup directory(ies) on Desktop. Waiting for new batteries based Hotsync to finish now. Hope this works.

What does new batteries set accomplish, anyway?

One suggestion ... would be to hard reset again and then remove the batteries overnight. Put in a fresh set, hard reset again, and start over.

As it turns out, suspecting that the problem really was not enough free RAM to operate the unit, the only thing that got me going again was to set some conduits to "do nothing", blow away some documents, etc., and leave the batteries out for and extended period of time this AM.

Re-synced (use BB), and now everything seems to be fine. Gotta learn to clean out mailboxes or turn off mail conduits, etc. Also, kept getting additional instances of repeating To Dos and repeating Appointments with each attempt to hotsync. Got rid of all of them on the desktop. Will resync here shortly and see if the problems return.

The new batteries is really just a personal preference of mine... besides, since you're taking them out, why not put new ones in?

The key is leaving them out of the Visor for an extended period of time (the Visor contains a capacitor to retain memory while changing batteries... you need to allow that to run down). This totally erases the memory on the unit ensuring that nothing remains behind.

I did the hard reset and the remove the batteries thing and everything has been fine for a week now. I reinstalled the OS patch and loaded in dbScan. I read in another thread about soft resets causing redundant shortcuts to be added which might account for a slowdown in performance.

I actually learned some very good lessons from this little incident........I thought my data was pretty safe having the backup module, but my problem erased my module! I didn't lose a whole lot of data, but many of the programs/hacks I had installed were lost. This time around I made sure I loaded in BackupAll so I won't lose as much should it happen again.

Whoops, I guess I spoke too soon. This afternoon, my screen started flickering and the system has slowed right down. I ran dbScan and deleted 136 redundant shortcuts, but it didn't make a difference.
