Rechargable battery shortcut

I just got Rayovac rechargable NiMH batteries. I didn't put them in yet, but I tried the .7 shortcut (or whatever it was) and NiMH didn't come up. Only NiCad, Rechargable Alkaline, and Alkaline. What do I put it on? Thank you.

NiCad's are very similar to NiMH. That setting will work.

Question

On a related note, I recently updated my DLX to a Platinum. When I do a (shortcut) .7, I get a dialog that says:

../Src/Palm/HwrBattery68Z328.c, Line:1910 Invalid battery kind
<reset>

I did use BackupBuddy to bring all my applications over to the Platinum from the Deluxe. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that? Anyone know of a workaround so that NiMh's have the right settings in my Platinum?

If you had the Handspring update installed on the VDx and it got transferred to the VPl from the backup directory, that could be causing your problems. If the update is installed on the Platinum, you'll need to do a warm reset, delete the update, and then soft reset.

Ah! Good idea. I followed your advice: warm reset, delete HS Updater, soft reset. It's gone, but upon doing a shortcut .7, I still get the error message.

Using dbcleaner from palmgear, I see that there is a database called "SerialDriver68Z328". Strangely, the 68z328 bit is also in the error message I receive. Possibly a red herring.

Yes, red herring. 68z328 is the part number of the Dragonball EZ, the processor in all the current Visors. SerialDriver68Z328 is the device driver for the serial port on the processor, and ../Src/Palm/HwrBattery68Z328.c is apparently a source file associated with the battery.

I have a possible solution, but the steps are rather drastic:
  • HotSync with Backup Buddy again to get a full back up.
  • Perform a Hard-Reset.
  • As long as we now have a clean device, perform a . 7 in a memo, just to verify that it does now work.
  • Before HotSync'ng again to restore everything, go into the backup directory on your desktop computer. Look any files called Graffiti_ShortCuts.PRC, possibly with additional underscores after the file name. Such as: Graffiti_ShortCuts_.PRC, Graffiti_ShortCuts__.PRC, Graffiti_ShortCuts___.PRC.
  • Move these files out of the way, so that they are not restored to you Handheld.
  • As long as we are here, also look for and move any file by a name like: HsExtensions_3_5_2_v__1_5.PRC .
  • HotSync again to restore all your data.
  • Try the . 7 again to test to see if this worked.
Now there is a disadvantage to this procedure: You will loose all your Short Cut Preferences. That is the shortcuts defined in the Prefs application, under ShortCuts. They will revert back to the original defaults.

Corrections:
  • The part number for the Dragonball EZ is MC68EZ328 (close).
  • The Dragonball EZ was used in the original Visor and Visor Deluxe. The Dragonball VZ is used in all Visors since.
