another question... has anyone ever replaced the screen on their visor? one of my friends was using mine and there was a piece of sand on the end of the stylus now theres a realtivly large scratch on the bottom left of the screen

I, too, bought a bunch of Write Rights in an exhuberance of spending when I first got my Visor (Christmastime last year). I became disappointed because they reduced the visibility more than I wanted. Then I came up with an answer that works for me: I cut off a piece of W-R just big enough to cover the grafitti area and left the main part of the screen naked. Works fine! (And I'm using the W-R's I paid for!)

I think i just found the best solution, use laminating covers to put on the graffiti area. Theyre cheap, they work good, and they come off relativly easily.

I got the Xerox window decal sheets for inkjet printers at Staples. They cost $7.99 for 5 sheets, but you can make several protectors (something like 11) from each sheet. I used some glass cleaner to remove the coating from the sheet (lets ink adhere and dry, but gets real gunky when wet) and after applying, hit it with some furniture polish. Looks great except for a few little air bubbles (defects in the sheet, I think; no piece of dust/dirt visible underneath).

They scratch easier than WriteRights, but are much easier to apply and remove. Not sure they are cheaper in the long run; a pack of 12 WriteRights lasted me 2.5 years! Time will tell how long 55 homemade protectors will last...but I have a PDA Panache stylus on the way anyway.

I use a piece of tape over just the graphitti area. I got some glossy Scotch tape (red dispenser) because I like the slick feel of the screen, but, since tape is cheap I'd reccomend experimenting. Whenever you use tape you'll find that you need to be careful not to trap air bubbles and you'll need to run the stylus across it to flaten it out.

I used tape in the beginning as well. It worked out really well. I chose to go with a screen protector because I wanted to make sure I didn't damage the rest of the screen.

Do the Avery Decals actually stick to the
screen?

A co-worker uses a cheap clear plastic film that sticks on without any glue (just friction and static). I think he got it from a crafts shop. He used a little Armor All and it is really smooth. Right now I just use a piece of tape over the Graffiti area, but I'm contemplating the plastic.

The Avery Window Cling sheets are a static cling material and do not use any glue to adhere to the screen. You do have to really clean off the film on the other side. It has some kind of film that allows you to run it through a ink jet printer. After scrubbing off the film, you have a nice shiny static cling type material. Just cut it to fit and use a credit card or other plastic card to ease the bubbles out. I have used the WriteRight sheets and they are good, but I didn't like the frosted look of the sheets. The Avery sheets are very slick and make using graffiti much easier. I haven't tried InventorOrb's product, but didn't care for the 11+ pages of battling between him and potential customers. I think it is kind of like Windex sueing everyone for using a vinegar and water mix to clean their windows instead of their patented product.

I too use clear window decals, but they are called "InventIt!" (purchased from WalMart's web site) I wasn't able to find the Avery ones, and I went to every Office Depot and Staples in my area. (couldn't find them on their websites either; this was a few weeks ago, so that might have changed - the Avery decals were listed as "new" on the Avery site.)
The InverntIt! decals DO stick to the screen, but it's very low-tack. (if you were to stick it to the back of your hand, it wouldn't stay.)

[Thanks Tom LaPrise - it didn't occur to me to try to take the coating off the sheet - duh. Now I don't have to worry about water spots any more, cause that coating really did get "gunky". A friend of mine, who is a die-hard WriteRight person, liked the clear look of the decals, but decided against them when he saw how a drop of water could mess it up. NOW, he's impressed again, and will probably try it when his current WR is ready to come off.]


Note to people considering these: They are VERY clear, and if you are used to WR's, you will have to get used to the sometimes glare. On the positive side, that "mirror" application should work very well.

How "low" is the "low-tack" adhesive? Is it similar to a Post-It note tack?

I'm very concerned over using any screen protector with an adhesive on it. I'm going to order some Easy-Peel sheets soon to try, but I am interested in the Invent-It! window decals. I've also aware of the Avery ones and I saw some from Mirage Ink-Jet at Fry's Electronics.

I would really like a screen protector that was clear and does not blur the LCD image, but at the same time cuts down on the glare from the screen. I find the glare really annoying. I realize that I might be asking for something impossible here: clear but low glare. If I can't get it, the clarity is slightly more important to me - so WriteRights are out.

Currently I'm using some screen protector that I made from some report covers that I had laying around. They are very clear, but they scratch very easily, and have the same glare as the raw touchscreen.
