What do you use for a start page?

I thought about doing this as a poll, but didn't want to miss any good portal sites or unnecessarily limit the discussion.

I used myCNN as a start page for almost two years until they discontinued the service last spring. It was a terrible shame; they offered customizable news which was updated frequently, the usual cusomized weather and stock quotes...it had a very "Wall Street Journal" look to it...very crisp and clean.

I swtiched to myYahoo, which I find almost trashy looking; the news gets stale, the design is poor, and I don't use Yahoo Messenger or any other Yahoo components to make it worth my while.

I would very much like to change. MSN seems much the same as Yahoo, and Google is just a search engine, not what I consider to be a good "Start Page".

What do others use for a Start Page? I want regional and international headline, sports, weather, stocks all in a clean professional looking page...

Two words: About: Blank

Although I may be changing to Time.com now that I realized I can access up to a year's worth of old articles with a subscription.

You mean nobody's got their home page set to VisorCentral? Shame on you!

Actually, I agree with the about: blank. I hardly ever start my browser directly. I have a bunch of favorite shortcuts on the desktop and utilize the Favorites menu. On the rare occasions that I start IE from its default icon, it comes up with the blank page and I go from there.

www.thedaily.com/bikini.html

It's a nice portal with a different bikini-clad girl every day. You can also select other themes like pets or nature pics also.

I need my blank-y.
Since I tend to quit the browser when I don't need it, having a specific start page wastes my time. I briefly used one when I went online years ago, but that's all.

I'll be the first to vote for MyYahoo! It's got everything, portfolios, bookmarks, news, sports, weather, photos, calendar, directions, search, best fares, company news, calculator, Yahoo clubs, TV listings, address book, currency converter, auto tracking and comics. You can sync with a PDA and its free!
Of course, I have another window open to VC, discussion usually, both here and at work.

I also have mine set to about:blank. There are only a few sites that I visit everyday. Visor Central, TheRegister, Fark and WashingtonPost are the only ones and I have shortcuts to them on my desktop. When I just start up my browser, I want a blank page because I'm always going to a different place.

I too, thought that I was in the minority since no one else that I know does this.

If you can't find a decent start page out on the web, and you don't like the ugliness of about:blank, you can always create your own local HTML page and use it as your start page. It can be as simple as a blank page (so you're not staring at the about:blank boilerplate), or can be as fancy as you want it to be. Many applications today can create HTML files (i.e. MS Office) so there's no reason not to try.

Yep, the University of Minnesota, baby

Hey, them gophers may be struggling in nearly every sport to break into the big leagues, and they may be cheating, but the university has this English TA that is totally HOT and is clearly the SMARTEST MAN ALIVE.

I'm very boring. My internet provider (quixnet) automatically sets you up on your "own" page when you dial up. I've been using them for almost five years and I've never customized it. I just download my email and immediately go to VC or LinuxApps or AudreyHacking. I get all my news from my email subscriptions like Wired, etc.

Oh, but for the vanity of man....

You're mistaken anyway. He's not hot, you're thinking of his monkey.

Dude, totally hot. And so is his monkey, which you clearly want to touch and love.
