Question Extra memory: complete beginner

With the prices of memory add-on products so low, lower than a backup module, what do I need if I have an 8 mb CF card and a DLx? What hardware and software do I need? I want to use it as a backup module, is it just as good as the real backup module, and since my visor is 8 MB, will it take up the whole card? What else should I know? Thanks.

First, I'm not sure where you would get an 8MB CF. Smallest I could find was 16MB at Walmart for $20 (that was a sale, I don't know what the price is now). I have the Memplug CF (it was free to me because I got it for Xmas). It cost somewhere around $30-40. The Memplug comes with everything you need to use it as a backup module, name PiBackup. I haven't tried it but I think Blue Nomad makes backup software for expansion memory.

That's about all I know. I'm pretty new at the expansion stuff, too. Like I typed earlier, I just got mine at Xmas.

If you get one of the CF adapters that uses the Kopsis software, you can use a free backup program that is supposed to work just fine (CardBackup, I think). I use JBBackup, which cost under $10, and it works great for me.

(I have both a 2Mb and an 8Mb CF card. Both came with digital camaras. I have seen 8Mb cards for sale before).
