Question

Sorry if this topic was covered already, I tried to do a search and nothing directly answered my question.

Can you replace the rechargeable battery(s) in the Prism?

Was wondering what will happen a few years down the road when the battery dies or wont hold a proper charge. I have had several high-tech/anti-memory batteries for several other electronic devices and they all suffer from memory charging problems after a while.

Just was curious

Not a bad question...

Truthfully, the thought never crossed my mind. I would love to know if it could be replaced. Anyone out there know the answer?

Wink

I'm sure that they could be replaced. I'm just not sure who could do it - HandSpring?

They should be good for a couple of years minimum and by then you will probably have moved on. The last data I saw said that people average less than 18 months between new organizers. Because of it's age the study was probably skewed (or screwed) by early adopters, but it is probably still mostly true.

I have opened up my Prism, and I know for a fact that it would be an easy job to replace the battery as it is only connected through a removable connector, and some light adhesive to the back of the case. The only problem is where to get a replacement battery. I think that the only way to do that would be to send it back to handspring, in which case I belive they would send you anothe refurb unit instead of your orginaly one.

But by the time your battery dies, your warrenty's gone up. Handspring won't replace it. What do you do? You get a 3 year warrent from for Point of Purcase. Right? maybe..

The big thing is, that once the battery's dead, you shouldn't be using the Prism(OR EDGE) anyway. You should by than, have bought a new Visor. Seriously.. sell it on ebay to some kid who wants a PDA, and than buy a new one. Simple as that. And if it DOES die early, have Hand replace it.

I thought the warranty was only for ONE year....true I might not want to keep it for more than a couple of years, but I have friends/family who would buy it, and it would be nice to know if the battery can be changed out by the user rather than taking the time/expense to send it back to Handspring.

The battery looks a lot like a cordless phone battery, so it's easily replaceable; if you could get one, that is. I'm sure someone, somewhere makes one, or will make one.
