 Question

I have a visor and Handspring modem. I'd like to connect to a cell phone via cables. Problem is, only Cellular One provides the service in my area so I'm a bit limited. So I'd like to know if I buy a phone like the Nokia 51xx and a dongle for data connection - will it work? Please excuse me if this has been asked before I just can't find the answer I'm looking for.
