Unhappy Prism parts

Does anyone know where to get parts for the Visor prism?
Other than gethightech.com?
I don't understand why Handspring won't sell them.
I bought my Prism "used/refurbished" about 6 months ago on sale at Fry's for $200.
Since then I drowned it. Which was fixable by not turning it on until it had been thoroughly dried out by dissassembling it and letting it sit, then reassembling.
And then I broke the digitizer. (glass top) The LCD still works just fine and isn't scratched and the rest of it works too.
Handspring wants $125 so THEY can fix it.
What a rip-off!
This is a $40 part for any other visor.
It has a flat cable with four conductors and comes apart from the LCD by carefully bending a few tiny metal tabs.
If anyone has any info on this part or, better yet, has one they want to sell, please e-mail me at [email protected].

www.gethightech.com has parts from used Prisms.

Also try:
http://www.palmpilotupgrade.com/prices.html
They have screens, and can upgrade you to 16MB.

upgrade

if you plan to upgrade, the link above is fairly pricey. you can find a $49 upgrade on ebay. type 'prism upgrade' in the search. i have emailed this guy 4 or 5 times about various things, and he's always very helpful. i ordered another prism, so that i won't have to do without one for the 4 to 6 days it will take to send mine/get it back. as soon as i get the prism (it's on the way), i'll send my other in for an upgrade (esp for use w/ my gps module and assoc maps).

good luck

I have to ask, what are you doing that you drowned your Prism and then cracked it's screen?? Maybe you should invest in one of those rubber casings that fit around the Visors..

Cracked screen

I was in the boat and the PDA was in its Pelican waterproof box.
I dropped the box in the water and the lid came open...... ooops
It hit the water just right so that the latch on the box came open.
It was a fluke. Since then I've skipped it accross the water and threw it in all without the lid coming open.
It was in my pocket when the screen was damaged. It had the plastic cover on the front but I bumped into the corner of a stool that was at just the right height. If I ever get a new digitizer for it I'm gonna get a titanium case for it.

Man, I don't think I would ever take my PDA in the boat. Of course, the way my husband drives the boat, you probably wouldn't either!
