Red face

I just received the Handspring Modem and I noticed that it looks different from the one on the Handspring site.

The module pictured on the Handspring site has a 'slot' next to the RJ11 outlet. I recall reading an earlier review of this module that claimed that the 'slot' was a USB slot that would allow the Handspring modem to be used as a USB modem. Presumably so that your PC or Mac could dial out through the module. But alas the modem that is shipping doesn't have the 'slot' in it.

However I did notice something else about the Handspring modem the slick little 'Hotsync' button on the front of the module (The round button that is shown in the small image). Then I remembered seeing that same button on the Navicom HandyGPS site. I smell a conspiracy here, I think that the two modules are one in the same. Wadya think?

I think you may have uncovered something from the S-Files, Mulder.

They look pretty freakin' close it scares me. I'm thinking that Navicom decided that they could use the same housing/case as Handspring's modem and decided to use it to reduce costs.

OR, there really is no such thing as a HandyGPS. Has anyone out there ever seen the modem AND the HandyGPS in the same room at the same time??? I think the modem is pulling a fast one on us...

Handspring has several standard "Springboard Housings," so that developers don't need to create their own plastics etc.

You can look through Handspring's developer section for drawings and pictures of the various modules.
