I hear that the Palm OS on the Visor isin't Upgradeable is that true. And the Palm IIIxe got a higher rating than the visor on cnet please help me.

Check out this earlier thread that addresses this very same issue.

I wouldn't grant CNET too much levity. They are squarely biased against the Visor. It may have it's faults but the Visor is the best Palm OS based handheld on the market at this time. In my opinion.

Also the Visor's display is noticeably clearer than the IIIxe.

Having owned both the Palm IIIxe and the Visor Deluxe, I must say I like my Palm IIIxe a little more.

First, the visors buttons are better. They have a better feel. It's also has a cool factor with the colors. You see someone walking with one, and you instantly know what the person has.

I gave up on the visor because the promise hasn't been fufilled. The springboards offer a lot of promise, but not much has been delivered. I really wanted the GPS Springboard, which was oringally supposed to be available in November. It is not almost May, and they are still promising to deliver.

The 8 megs of ram on the Visor was the compelling factor to me. When I saw the Palm IIIxe was out with 8 Megs, I jumped on it. You still can't buy a serial cable for the Visor. I need it for my GPS.

The Palm IIIxe seems more solid than the Visor. The Blue I had always seemed a little brittle. I feared that if I dropped it, the visor's case might splinter into a million pieces, although that isn't true. But, there were the cracking problems on the case (brittle plastic).

With the Palm IIIxe, I was able to get a wireless modem for it. I can now surf, hotsync and run PQAs anywhere I am. I couldn't do that with the Visor today.

So, the true question is: What do you want to do with the machine? Will the Visor satisfy your needs? Will the Palm IIIxe satisfy your needs?

If each will, then move to accessories. Which one has the accessories you want? Visor has 16 Megs of RAM available, IIIxe only 8. Palm IIIxe has wireless modems available, Visor doesn't...

It's up to you..

Thomas

There was no mention C|Net either in this thread or the link to the other thread; nor is the Pocket PC being discussed. I argued in the previous thread that I would rather spend less that $150 on an entry-level 2mb Palm IIIx than $250 on a 8 mb IIIxe. For $250, the Visor is the better value IMO, even without the "dream" springboards -- which at the same price are just a bonus. The modem, backup, flash RAM modules are much easier to use than their serial equivalents. But the Palms do have flash ROM upgradability and a wider range of compatible accessories.

There is a wireless modem for the visor and i dont need a gps. the first module i intend to buy is the eye module i dont know if this is worth it but it is pretty cool. But the i saw the kodax palm pix camera and was considering buying the Palm IIxe but i havent made a decision yet since there are not that many convincing arguments,

Cool

Gameboy,

Sorry about the irrelevant CNET mention!

I had two browser windows open at the same time, and I think I was replying to the wrong topic. I was sure someone in a similar discussion stated that they were interested in purchasing a Visor Deluxe, but read the negative review at CNET. I was just giving my opinion on some their past reviews which I believe are tad tainted in favor of the Palm.

No problem.

Are you sure that there's a wireless modem for the Visor? The closest thing I've seen coming down the pipe is Glenayre's two-way pager. Which modem are you referring to?

ok i am really sorry about the modem i dont think it is wireless. Someone told me there was one out but i guess they lied but a wireless modem isn't that important to me.
