Exclamation

Each Wednesday, VisorCentral begins a discussion on a particular topic. After a week has passed, the topic will be moved from General to the appropriate forum for those that would like to continue the discussion.

This week's topic: missing Springboard modules

What module (unannounced) do you wish someone would make? I want a Compact Flash reader. InnoGear's selling SanDisk's MMC's, why not their CF cards? The module could even include software to display jpg files.

So what do you want?

I want a module that connects to Apple's Airport. That way i can be on the net w/ my visor and not have to worry about wires. But that's probably where bluetooth comes in handy.

Fantasy Springboard: Module to make everything you need from the atoms in the air. If I wanted fries, it gathers molecules in the air and assembles them to make french fries.

So long as we're fantasizing, IBM announced a 1 GB hard drive the size of a quarter, a springboard module that used such a drive would store a heck of a lot of ebooks (not to mention giant program databases like the 500K Noah dictionary). Of course, waiting for a PDA to boot up a program would be kinda weird tho :P .

Wow...wouldn't that be fun! Of course, you could only ever sell ONE of them, since you could use it to replicate itself (and the Visor, etc.) as many times as you wanted...

The 'real' springboard I want is the cell phone springboard. Not only does this let me go from two devices to one, it's also the only way I can access my company's e-mail, since we are totally behind a firewall and there's no access from the internet, only through a direct dial-up to our internal network. Of course, if this ever does eventually make it to market, it will probably be tied to some new and obnoxiously expensive service plan, with a $.10 per bit data transmission surcharge and a perpetual contract that passes on to your children after you die (can you tell I've been evaluating wireless service plans recently?)

Well, this is not exactly a module... but it's related to them. I would like some kind or cradle/cable that would link any flash modules directly to my PC. This would allow me to copy, move and delete files directly - instead of using my Visor.

One of my friends wanted to put a large dictionary on a flash module. He went around to various Visor owners, trying to find someone with 5mb free on their Visor. His was pretty full and he didn't want to delete a bunch of stuff to get the dictionary on the module.

Oh yeah, I would also like a CF module. More storage for books!!!

Cool

Personally, I think it has taken all of the MP3 Module-makers too long to get their wares to market.

This feeling leads me to what I'd like to see --> a module along the lines of the soon-to-be-released Nomad Jukebox (see http://www.nomadworld.com/products/jukebox/ for details) that will allow up to 100 hours of digital audio to be stored......(that sure beats the heck out of a 64MB module!)

I realize that this module would be pretty big, but the OmniSky wireless attachment for the Palm V has already shown a possible solution (see http://www.omnisky.com/products/ for details) --> it could plug into the Springboard slot and create a "new backing" for the Visor. This would create enough room for this module's own battery as well. The Visor would be used to manage all the files/playlists.

Am I alone here???

That is already coming out from Xircom. It is an 802.11b (correct me if I'm wrong) wireless ethernet module that is compatible with AirPort and several other wireless services. (i can't wait, I'd love to be able to surf wirelessly in my school.)

I want the Gameboy adapter, too. The day I can pretend to take notes while playing Pokemon is the day I don't mind going to school!

I'm happy then.

Why not have a springboard that uses a cord to connect it to something, like a CF barcode scanner wand? Can the Vdx become the "springboard" itself?

also see this thread: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000125.html

I kinda like the ID of a springboard that can handle multiple springboards at once....
I know it technically imossible, but still...

Or how about a springboard extentioncable.
That way you can take a picture of yourself and see the viewfinder onscreen...

A few modules's I'd like to see:

1. A cellphone springboard. Could plug in a lightweight handsent, use a lapel mic and ear piece, or even use the integrated springboard's speaker with the Visor's mic as a speaker phone. Not to mention, you could use it for wireless internet access for the Visor. The only catch would be batteries. But, hey, my watch uses kinetic energy to keep itself going!

2. A camera. Yeah, I know the eye module exists, but from the pictures I've seen, they're horrible! How about a decent one? Surely the hardware that wouldn't have to be built into it (because it connected to the Visor's hardware) should make it cheaper than buying a camera outright.

3. Measuring springboard. One that could measure several physical quantities like distance (using a reflected beam), level, temperature, pressure, who knows what else?

I want someone to take that IBM 1 GB hard drive and make a module out of it. That would be great.

Cool

A springboard that would allow a direct wireless connection to the internet would be nice. Something analogous to the Palm VII.

A module with a CF slot and a serial? port with the software to load up a presentation (on the CF cards) and then attach my visor to one of those digital display units. (i.e. powerpoint presentation). This would also allow you to connect a monitor to your visor.
I'd like to bring ONLY my visor to presentations at meetings.

And i like the idea of a laser range finder module. like in those binoculers ...except the output would be put into a DB on the visor.

Otherwise, everything else i want has been announced.

I've been talking about a CF springboard for a while now. It'd be awesome with the new 1GB IBM Minidrive (which is CF II Compatible!!!)

Could you imagine? a 1GB Visor!!!

In regard to my last post, I know the IBM drive was mentioned, but I wanted to point out that it was CF.

(A Taser Springboard could be fun too! ZAP!!)

I second (or third) the cell phone SpringBoard. I hate carrying two devices, and sometimes I can only carry one. If these two were combined my life would be complete.
