having trouble synching

Im using win XP home edition and palm desktop 4.0.1. I have a prism while the wife is using a platinum. heres the trouble..

I can synch both visors if I am logged in under my name but she cant sych her platinum logged into windows under her name.We both have the same administrator rights on the computer, the only reason we use different log ons os to have different desktops.

she can load up palm desktop on her log in and we can see both of our palm names there and I can change stuf around on my palm desktop if im logged on the 'puter as her. the only thing we cant do is sych under her login.

any ideas?

You might try the simple thing first. Sign on as her for XP. Do a soft reset on the Visor. then do a synch with her visor. XP identifies each device that connects-it may need to indetify that visor as being available within her desktop. Soft reset just helped me solve a problem with synching--I have XP, and somehow the machine began to refuse to synch. "USB device malfunctioning" and the Visor saying the desktop computer would not communicate. I tried the Handspring registry tool they have recently put up, but this did not do it, until I did a soft reset. Then at next synch, XP said "new device found" and loaded drivers and synching proceeded normally. The nice thing was soft reset left data alone.

Bad news and good news

Palm Desktop software is not designed for multi-login systems like XP or NT. The problem is that each user has discrete registry and program settings. You installed the PD software so your login is the only one that has the registry settings associated with the USB devices (The Visors). When your wife tries to sync the USB settings cannot be seen under her user name. She would have to 'enuerate' the USB device under her login. I bet you get no reaction from the computer when you press the HotSync button under her login.

You could try installing Palm Desktop again over itself with your wifes login to the same place. This would place the USB driver and INF file in her section of the PC and next time she HotSyncs the USB device should be recognized.

The other alternate is to use Serial HotSync or IR HotSync which is less registry dependent on your wifes login. She probably would not be too happy with slower synchs though.
