Angry Prism and Quickoffice 6 warning

Hello,

Those of you who own a Prism and would like to upgrade to the new Quickoffice 6 beware...!
The VFS support that enables to open and read docs from a memory card, does only work with Palm v. 4 and higher. Since the Prism has Palm 3.5 it causes a fatal crash when trying to read a doc from the card.
Apperently a lot of users who bought the upgrade -like me, I admit...- wrote Cesinc that they're not happy with this. It seems that they're looking into that now and try to fix it. So watch www.quickoffice.com or go to groups.yahoo.com/quickoffice to stay updated on this...

Unhappy RE: Prism and Quickoffice 6 warning

Well,

I have a Prism with MemPlug CF. I can't believe that the difference between CF and SM could cause a problem.
Do you use other doc readers like TomeRaider or CSpotRun? Maybe they cause a conflict...?
Still it's a mystery that it seems to work on a Prism, while Cutting Edge says that VFS support is only enabled on Palm 4 or higher. On the other hand there's also a story about somebody who has no problems with QO 6 on a Deluxe (Palm OS 3.1).....

I don't have any other document readers or hacks loaded. Whether this makes a difference or not I don't know.
I had did a "brain dead" reset the other day and have a virtually stripped unit with lots of available memory both on the Prism and the SM card. Will update as I load app's and see if anything affects Quickoffice.

Lightbulb Latest Software for your memplug?

If you use a memplug CF, have you downloaded and installed the latest software? They had a flurry of updates recently that might fix your problem...

RE: Prism and Quickoffice 6

I just installed the latest updater 2.13 for MemPlug CF, but it didn't solve the crash problem with Quickword.
Yesterday I got a new Quickoffice build 6.06 from Cutting Edge for Quickword that I still have to install..
Will keep you updated on this..

My version is 6.0.11. Keep us posted although I've still not had any issues.

Oddly enough...

I just downloaded v6.06 (QSheet v6.02). On my refurbed Prism, QW crashes constantly. In fact, it's virtually useless, and I now use Wordsmith almost exclusively. Really, really annoying.

OTOH, TinySheet was crashing every other day, while FastWriter (the Iambic Office suite) was generally fine. That being said, it seems like the best things on my Prism are Wordsmith and Quicksheet, and I'll probably uninstall QW and FW. THe only reason that I keep them on are becasue FW can read/write several formats (text, html, doc, rtf), although I don't see this as typical of what I do.

One other thing: I started using an 8mb DataQuake SB mod. Wordsmith will let me read files on it, but QW and FW will crash (Fatal Exception, mainly). Naturally, I can't write to files on the mod.

No hacks, either, BTW.
<shrug>
I haven't any idea why.

RE: Prism and Quickoffice 6 warning

Hello,

It seems that the problems are caused by the way MemPlug (PiTech) handles the VFS support. At the moment Mike Compeau, vice CEO of Cutting Edge Software (QO), is trying to work out possible solutions with PiTech.
It seems that some Prism users are dealing with this, while others don't. On the Quickoffice usergroup some members even report that QO 6 works fine on a DeLuxe...
As soon as I hear of possible solutions I'll post it.

Lex
