Just put a : and ) next to each other in a message and you get a ... : and ( give you a etc.

Wow, I was using the UBB codes as in [ img ]http://visorcentral.com/images/image1.gif[ /img ].
I had no idea it was that easy. How do you do the thumbs up?

You can only select the 'thumbs up' icon as part of your message header. It's not part of the message reply smilies within the UBB code options.

I saw that Handsprung got bold text in one of his messages. How did he do this? I've seen people that have tried the html <B>text</B> way, but it didn't work.

You're trying to do it with HTML and that's slightly different from UBB code. For UBB you'd use end brackets [] rather than the carats <>. See the UBB code help guide that's accessible from the hyperlink on the left hand side of the posting window under Your Reply:
