Minijam question

I have a question about the minijam.

Will the Minijam also act as an external memory upgrade? or do i also have to buy a memplug?

The Minijam has two MBs of Flash memory that can be used to store PalmOS applications and files but the two MMC cards only read MP3's. To make a long story short, yes you should get either a memplug or a an 8MB or 16MB Flash card.

Are you sure of this? I have never heard of memory on this module to store Palm apps.... Even 2mb would be pretty cool.

Yes. I'm not sure about older versions but my MiniJam has 2MB of memory.

That's really cool! Is there any reason NOT to buy one?

only the lack of innogear following up on what they promised.

I love mine.

How fast are the file transfer speeds? how long does it take to load a 5mg song into the mini-jam? I am running a mac. I understand they work well with macs. Anyone have any expeirience with their mac and mini-jam?

are you sure that 2mb is for Palm programs, and not for some kind of firmware upgrade in the future?

It's for both...

See the full review here on VisorCentral (Products and Reviews button at top) for more but here is what was said about storage of files and apps:

>Ok here's the bad news: you can't store non-MP3 files on the MiniJam's MMC -- yet. InnoGear, after taking a lot of heat about the MiniJam's delays, chose to release the MiniJam first and add the MMC file management feature later as a software update to the MiniJam. While I'd like to see this feature now, I'm glad to be able to use the MiniJam for its intended purpose now, not later. I will say that ROM updates are possible on the MiniJam, as I did one over the course of my review. This review will be updated when the data storage feature becomes available.

With the FileMover that comes with the MiniJam you can store up to 2MB of applications and static data on the MiniJam's Flash RAM. See the review of the 8MB Flash module for details on how FileMover works.<

So.... this review was dated Sept. 6, 2000. After two years, they still have not added MMC access for non-MP3 files and apps? Good grief, you can't even get one in graphite, only in "ice"! My guess is they stopped all development after the Handspring announcement.

Doe anyone have a unit bought recently and tried to store non-MP3 data on the MMC card?
