PHP tips

Hey VisorCentral gurus,
I'm looking for free advice on running a content based site that is PHP driven for my church. I'm trying to figure out what my best option is because it seems like there are about 100 scripts out there to do content managment or news updates. I've seen PHP-Nuke out there a lot, and I'm interested in one called PHPWebSite. Any tips for me on what I should look for as far as key features, etc?

I'd welcome answers from anyone...not just the VisorCentral guys.
