broken vdx screen

Hi,

I'm looking for some thoughts, here's the situation:

Handspring sent me a replacement visor for my last under warranty. I had it for less than two weeks when the screen broke. I used it, put it in my pocket (like usual), drove 5 minutes, got out and the screen was cracked. This was no different than the hundreds (probably thousands) of times I did the same w/ my previous visor. I've even dropped the previous one on concrete and it kept right on going fine. I didn't notice anything rough on it this time--I'm usually pretty hyper-aware of that.

A replacement screen costs $100 unless it is a manufacturer's defect. How would one determine that? This screen certainly seems to be a lot weaker than my previous. This one experienced almost no stress that I know of and broke. Other--well it went through a lot and was fine.

Any thoughts?

as an addendum.

I wrote 2 weeks before, it was 2 days (what was I thinking?)
Also, looking at the screen now, the surface is smooth and fine, but the lcd in back is cracked and leaking. It was so new I hadn't put on a writeright yet.

I'm on hold at handspring.
my warrenty states that it doesn't cover damage to the surface of the unit, but is the lcd part of the surface if the outer-most surface is fine?
