Question

What are the differences?

I'm a university student and have access to a PC/laptop everyday. I won't be doing much travelling. Is the backup module just a waste of money for me?

I've heard that the backup module backs up EVERYTHING in your Visor. If you lose memory, just pop it in and you're back to where you started before you lost everything. Can backing up/hotsyncing to the PC do the same thing?

I was under the impression that hotsyncing would only transfer contacts and other such data. If you lost everythng on your Visor, then you'd only be able to restore those data items; you'd still lose your software and other programs you've loaded on. Is there a way to backup EVERYTHING to a PC?

Thanks in advance guys

If you are not that mobile and if you have ready access to your HotSync system, then the backup module is probably not all that necessary.

Assuming you invest in some backup software (e.g. BackupBuddy), you can backup everything (or just those things that are worth backing up). By default, restores are everything from your last backup. With creative use of zip files and/or Explorer, you can have a versioning system that will allow you to roll your Visor back to any point in time (nice for testing apps).

Anyway, sounds like you'd do fine with a software based backup system.

Question

Thanks for the clarification! Are there any FREE software programs that do full backups? If there are none and I'd have to pay for a software backup prog, then I might as well spend the money for the backup module...

BackupAll v1.1 is billed as freeware, and I know that some VisorCentral members use it. However, I am not one of them. I use BackupBuddy and the Backup Module. Anyway, the URL for BackupAll on PalmGear is - http://www.palmgear.com/software/sh...amp;prodID=3994

I'm one of those users that uses BackupAll, and I like it... it's really simple, you run it click on backup all and then you do a hotsync... And its FREE!

btw, I also have the backupmodule for when I'm on the road...

Get the backup module! It works and backs up EVERYTHING. Whatever is in the Visor is backed up. Works like a dream. GET THE MODULE! It's one reason why I chose the Visor deluxe.
