I sync my Prism (OS 3.5.2H) to two PCs - one win95/serial and one win98/USB - and on both I frequently encounter a Fatal Alert - Fatal Exception error message, with a reset button at the bottom. This message pops up before the desktop hotsync manager activates. Sometimes the screen reset button works, but often I have to do a soft reset with the stylus pin. Any ideas? I use WeSync and am aware of the problems there with OS 3.5.2, but I think this is something different, because the error message pops up the instant I press the hotsync button, rather than when WSContacts is trying to sync.

While I don't currently have a fix for you, I do have the same problem with my Visor Deluxe. Whe the hot sync button is pressed, the fatal error pops up. However, right after a reset (usually by the onscreen button), it will sync fine. While I don't have any solution for you, if I do find something, I'll post it to this thread.

Handspring Tech Support's helpful email answer to this issue was: delete all your third party apps. Sigh.

I have two ideas - I sync at work and at home pretty much each day, and the first sync of the day at either PC is sure to cause a crash. Could syncing to two PCs have something to do with it?

Also, I have been playing around a bit, switching off all my hacks, and I got it to happen a couple times when I had reactivated Daylight Saving Hack. But not always, so I can't be sure yet. (Once the fatal alert box popped up and it was empty - just a big white box!)

Has anyone published an incompatibility list for the Visor, or the Prism in particular?

Hello,

Previously I've the same problem as you. I've a lot of third party apps on my prism and one day it's been striked with fatal exception even on pushing the hotsync button. On looking back, I've deleted all the apps reinstall it one by one. Suddenly I thought it might be some accelerator problem (I've been using quickbit). I omit that one and now I don't have any problem anymore!

Unhappy

Well, lately I have also been getting problems. My desktop thinks that every time I sync, my Visor has hard-reset and lost everything (it keeps trying to "restore" my applications) and either my HotSync on my desktop freezes/bombs badly, or my Visor gives me a fatal exception. I, personally, would like to know what the FSCK is going on.

Turned out the problem was indeed Daylight Savings Hack. I had been running an old version, and when I downloaded the current version the problem vanished. The web site says the old version is not compatible with Palm OS 3.3 or higher. But I never had a problem with OS 3.3 or 3.5 on my Palms. Hmmmm.

I had the same issues, and tried the following:

These did not work:
removing X-Master
removing DaylightSavings Hack
removing all hacks

This did work:
disable all hacks, enable one at a time in a different order.

I have not had an issue since.

Matt, I had some trouble recently like yours.
I was using Time Reporter 2000. Once I uninstalled it things got better.
Watch the visor and see what it was doing just prior to crashing. Then right click your hotsync and go to custom and see what is trying to run just after when it crashed. Thats how i figured out what was making my crash.
good luck.
