Cool

I totally agree. I've been waiting all week for this to come out. I love SilverScreen and I am sooo happy to be able to use it on my new Prism IN COLOR! Wahoo! :-)

I agree, but I am sure there will be more themes to come. The SilverScreen people have done really well with releasing themes lately, so I'm sure there are new ones on the way. Overall I am just happy to have my SilverScreen back and in color.

FYI, for anyone using ISilo(not the free version), apparently the icon that is used has some problems under ChromaCast. It was causing major display problems for me. I ended up changing the icon associated with ISilo to one that was included in the theme(BeBop) and all is well. I do not know if this problem happens with ISilo free or not.

Looks cool...but...

Chromacast sure does look cool. However, I love the functionality of Launch Em. I wish they could combine the functionality of the tabs with the look and feel of Chromacast. Can you guys point out a few features with chromacast that I'm maybe missing?

How do I delete individual themes that have been installed on the Visor?

hmm...

Well, here is what i have found so far.

It has a cool little task bar at the bottom that lets you beam, delete (via a trashcan that needs to be emptied), a folder icon to let you file things easier (just drag to the folder, and pick a category in a single motion), a beam icon that beams things dropped on it, and an info icon that lets you view app info, set the backup bit, change the icon, etc. It also has two custom buttons you can make do whatever (from a list).

Then there is the "stroke of genius" which just means a short line from the title tab to the app area, which causes a third customizable action (like the custom buttons)

And there is a cool battery meter which shows all sortsa stats when you tap it. And a recent apps listing. And themes.

And it has two views for your apps. In the list view if you hit the + icon, you see the dbs under the app in a semi-tree format. You can then beam and delete the db's independant of the app. Thats kinda cool.

Anyway, it looks relatively simple, but its not. I wish they could have tabs too, cause i have to admit just dragging to a tab and releasing is easier than dragging to a folder and tapping a second time. But seriously, its not a big deal, and the other benefits make it worthwhile.

go to the list view in chromacast. (the green arrow below the category drop down, or hit /V (slash V) )

Hit the + by Name to expand to DB view.

Look for Silver Data, and drag the db's you dont want to the trash can. When done click the trashcan and select "Empty Bin"

Easy.

I'm going to list the features that I really like about SilverScreen/ChromaCast. I want to emphasize that these are my opinions because UIs are so dependent on the person.

First, love the 3D and now colorized themes. My Prism now looks so sweet! They have some great themes and all the icons are interchangable among themes. I'm looking forward to being able to create my own themes at some point. Point is, the UI is cool looking and can be customized. But, there has to be more to it than that?

There's also the toolbar. The toolbar for me is quite multifunctional. It has two "Hot Spots" which are programmable. Anything from opening a menu to opening a predefined app. I have one button programmed to pull down the main menu, the other to hotsync. There is also the Trashcan which acts like Windows trashcan functionality. Drag and drop and it's gone(well almost until you empty the trashcan). You can hide the toolbar when you want to.

One of my favorites is the pulldown menu that contain the last 10 recently run applications. I love this! Now, I keep my "Main" category open and if I need most anything else, I just pull the menu down and select the app to run. Pretty much like a Recent Applications type thing on the Mac. For me, no tapping to the correct category, then selecting then app, and then after running it switching back to my "Main" category.

I know it may not sound like much, but I am easy to please really. To summarize, I love the looks and I love the fact that I don't have to tap, tap, tap to find an app and run it. This is what makes it worth it to me.

If you click that little arrow in the upper righthand corner, a list of categories drops down. It's not tabs, but serves the purpose for me!

You can change the category, delete and beam without going into the "native" program (which on my prism is the slowest thing on there), but dragging the icon into the bar on the bottom of the screen.

You can change the icons of any program

Looks REALLY cool...a great way to show off your color screen!

Has any one else been able to get chromacast to display the icons of things stored on the springboard module? Is it me or is this a bug in the software? I hope I am just doing something wrong.

Thanks

Matt

Very cool in my book also. However:

One Problem: I tried to add a new catagory while in chromacast using the bebop theme. Blammo - system reset.

One wish: that there was a theme with smaller icons. They are certainly eye-catching but i wish they didn't take up so much real estate.

Other than that VERY NICE LOOKING!

I just made a poll about all of the color launchers (that I know about) in the 'Software' section. Vote!

You can get to it here

SilverScreen and color, YES!!!! i have been looking forward to this for a long time as well. Now if they will just fix the only true bug that i have found in silverscreen i will be really HAPPY! The bug i mean i am sure is only on the handspring visors etc. But it is still there, when you are using silver and have app's stored on the module and remove the module without exiting silver and then reinstall the module silver files all app,s on the module in the unfiled area. Which means you must go back and replace all the app,s where you want them or is this just something i am doing wrong. But if you exit silver first all is well.

Mattp, I have no problems with my 8MB Springboard and displaying icons. Now, I will tell you that I had to move them back to the Visor memory to change the icon, and then back to the Springboard. I had no problems displaying icons for any programs except ISilo which I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Herkimer, amen brother! This is soooooooo annoying! I hope they fix that bug too! I'm tired of reseting categories.

Question Is it really cool!?

I d/l the demo and was playing with it. I notice that it re-categorized all my apps. It moved them all around within silver. If I left silver, all was fine, but I don't want to have to re-categorize all my apps. It has taken me YEARS to get them to this point. Is this just a problem with the demo? Why can't it just pick up and use my existing categories?

Spring-a-ling,

Thanks for your reply. It must just be me but I cannot get Silver Screen to recognize anything that is on the 8MB module. I have taken it out and put it back in numerous times both while in Silver Screen and when in the standard Palm launcher. The Palm launcher always recognizes the module. I have even reset to see if that was the problem. Even Launch'Em recognizes everything.

Am I the only one with this problem? If so does any one have any ideas on a fix.

Thanks

Matt

Lightbulb

Matt, I really can't think of any reason that you should not be able to see programs on your Springboard. I have all my games and Multimail along with all my e-books on Springboard and no problem. With that said, are you looking at the "All" category and not seeing the applications? The question was asked in the previous post about using your currently defined categories and as far as I know, you have to redefine all your apps in SilverScreen into categories yet again. There's a feature(bug) that whenever you remove your Springboard, the categories associated with the apps on the board are changed to "Unfiled". I would make sure that you switch to "All" and confirm that your Springboard programs don't exist in there because it's possible they are not assigned a category and hence you would not see them. I know this is simplistic, but it's the only thing that I could think of that might be the problem.

I compiled the concerns on this board and PalmGear and sent an email to pocketsensei. The 16 bit icon for iSilo is corrupt--complain to www.isilo.com to fix the icon!

Question

22-Mar-01 by Chris F.
I have already paid for silverscreen in b+w, but subsequently got a prism, so I was looking forward to this app. However, I got nasty screen corruption just scrolling the app window. I feal lucky to remove it without crashing my prism. Still some bugs there.

anyone else having this problem?
