Question

Has anyone been able to complete a hotsync using a USB cradle under Win98 running on Virtual PC 3.0 on a Mac (PowerBook G3 Bronze to be specific)?

If you have, care to share how you made it work?

Thanks,
-- Michael

P.S. No matter what I do, VPC shows "No USB Devices" attached to the virtual PC. Interesting.

No, I haven't tried syncing to the MacDesktop software (2.1 is, well, poor after having used 2.5 for months).

Hi,

In order to USB devices to work with VPC3.0, you'll USB support card 1.3.5 (extension) from apple site. After installing it (reboot), go to VPC preference - select USB device. Then, you should Win98 installing driver for Visor. So far, I don't have any probem - work great with avantgo. Good LUck.

Hey, buckyball!

Thanks for your suggestion!

I did look at that option already. Unfortunately, the USB card support won't install on the PowerBook. It says something like, "This update is not needed on this computer."

It's been kind of frustrating trying to get this to run.

MacOS 9 solved a lot of USB problems on my PowerBook. Unfortunately, this one isn't one of them. <g>

Take care,

Thumbs up

Hello, Here is the process in which I use VDX with VPC 3.0 and USB. I have it successfully syncing avantgoc via VPC 3.0 and Dial Up networking. IT ROCKS!

1. Set up VPC with USB On. DO NOT TRY TO CHECK THE BOX THAT SAYS VISOR DELUXE USB DEVICE! (once you set this once, you shouldn't have to set it ever again.)

2. DISABLE syncing on the Palm Desktop before you start VPC.

3. Disconnect the USB Cradle from the PB

3. Start VPC. Install Palm Desktop for PC and MAKE SURE YOU DISABLE "Sync via Serial" in the sync app below the start bar. This will ONLY leave the Sync via USB" option checked.

4. Plug the Visor USB Cradle and you will inmediately see WIN98 install the HandSpring Visor USB Driver!

5. Press the Hotsync button!, You can now hotsync on the PC!.

6. Really try avant go, it rocks!

ALSO, I

Migato,

I'd done everything you suggested... except having the USB cradle unplugged when I started up VPC.

So, I unplugged the cradle, started a new VPC session (not a saved state). When VPC was up, I plugged in the cradle, pressed the hotsync button (obviously, I'd already installed the Palm Desktop software), and voila! Houston, we have software installation... we have hotsync!

Thanks for your suggestion, Migato!

Best Regards,
-- Michael
